When I was creating a character, I thought the 4 aspirations were optional instead of skills. I'm guessing I was mistaken? If so, is it too late to choose some?

Aspirations are optional and I can add them whenever. Aside from helping me make a character do what you want, they give a small permanent buff to your mental break threshold when achieved. There may also be a secret to them nobody has uncovered yet.

Characters have a chance to be inspired randomly, though it's more likely if they're in a good mood. They can be inspired to have buffs that last a few days like working faster/shooting more accurately, or they can get a guaranteed recruitment/higher craft tier/successful surgery that works one time (and has a time limit so it can't be stored forever)

I guess the wording "Summon rabid tortoises (next enemy raid)" isn't very clear but the idea is that the turtles are summoned during the next enemy raid and ideally they fight each other. I can make them attack us if you're mad about your junk wiener though.

That is acceptable as well. I have maybe hoped that they would attack everyone.
