Multi-stage boss fights where you are getting pummeled by two or three huge monsters who have a fuckton of health, who deal enough damage to send you to a checkpoint in two hits, and who have intentionally confusing attack patters designed to throw you off? I find it rather amusing though. Thought that comes to my head though when people complain about the difficulty is... "welcome to the 80's kid!"

At least they don't have to feed quarters into a machine when they die. LOL

The difficulty became a marketing gimmick that people fell for. Demons and Dark Souls 1 was never about being hard for the sake of it.

Am I an uncultured swine since I think this is a pretty decent AAA title? Exploration and secrets are up to Fromsoft's previous work. Haven't gotten to the DLC yet though.

It's a fine game, combat has enough options for variety. Game has good exploration for completionists. It has some differences from western rpgs, but for something to waste 40-80 hours on its a good choice.

Put rpghq in one of your multiplayer settings, this will make HQ players messages/summons/deaths highlighted

I'm sure it's a fun game but I doubt it's done enough to fight the Souls stagnation and adding a big **** off open world rarely makes a game better.

The combat formula definitely needs a technological leap. We need better story telling, too. Even though I like the worldbuilding in souls games.
With that said, I'm still waiting patiently for Bloodborne pc release.

Sure but that isnt even the worst one, the area with the flying manta rays and the swamp were also crap. Only the mine area and the castle starting zone are somewhat enjoyable. Its like 3 out of 5 areas were like blighttown maybe with better framerate tho. Pretty easy to not buy a PS5 then just for that game really. At least most of the **** areas in ds2 were relativ short and there were plenty of nice looking ones but I also didnt bother with the dlcs there.

It was a different time, that is for sure. A large room filled with machines and all the sounds and lights flashing, music playing, etc... It was a sight to see, a virtual wonderland of both physical and virtual setting. You can play the games on MAME now, but it really just isn't the same. Too bad some people missed that era, it is like the old fashion hops and soda shops of the past, it is a time past that had a very distinct feel.

Notice the modern Souls mainstream player on Galaga! LOL

Agreed. I really like Radahn (His armor is awesome, and you even get his armor in a cleaner and glorious version). Based of him rejecting Miquella, if that rotten ***** Malenia hadn't nuked Caelid, he would've decimated her.

Memorizing boss mechanics is optional in Elden Ring, they give you plenty of tools to use where you don't have to.

The thing about Elden Ring's balancing is that if you use the various tools the game gives you (i.e. summoning ashes, consumables, magic, weapon arts, summoning of other players, going to a different location to level up if the boss is too tough), you will just roflstomp the boss.

achtuaaally, game breaking features are a positive. Cheesing bosses with a glinstone stave outside of the boss barrier is immersive.

I don't mind the abundance of options that may occasionally break the game, i think it's actually fun to experiment and look for different ways to game the system (cheese aside). The main problem is again the open world.

It worked better in a more linear game cuz there weren't all that many different routes available to the player at the same time, so it was easier for designers to balance the encounters. Open world made it harder to determine the order at which you should tackle the bosses, so you end up either getting stuck fighting a very difficult high-level boss, or curbstomping him after over-levelling by accident.

Of course once you hit the endgame the over-levelling issue disappears as all the end-game bosses now have roughly the same level of power. But the issue of 'robbing yourself of a good fight' sort of remains.

definitely true about how you can accidentally overlevel and 'rob yourself of a good fight' lol, i ensured i did all of limgrave and weeping peninsula stuff before Godrick so as to not miss out on anything (since the game progresses a stage or whatever when you beat him) that when i fought him i beat him first try, without using the cringe foid summon to help (imagine summoning some swarthoid woman to help you)
