Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog
First trailer just dropped and it's looking pretty good to me. They did a good job of translating the 16-bit era art style to 3d. It's weird seeing Amy with her Sonic CD design again.

I just don't get the appeal of these 2D Sonic games. You're supposed to go fast, but you're often punished for it, and if they design a game that actually compliments your speed it becomes just some automated loop-de-loop game. The game honestly looks worse than Sonic Mania as well.
Sounds like a skill issue to me. Going fast is your reward for getting good.KnightoftheWind wrote: ↑ June 9th, 2023, 02:47I just don't get the appeal of these 2D Sonic games. You're supposed to go fast, but you're often punished for it

That's a cope. Sonic the Hedgehog was never good, his games nor his character.GhostCow wrote: ↑ June 9th, 2023, 02:56Sounds like a skill issue to me. Just like racing games. Sonic is pretty much born from the arcade philosophy that has always accompanied SEGA. The series make more sense if you take them as horizontal racing games with obstacles than a platformer. Getting mad at Sonic games for not letting you go fast 100% of the time is like getting mad at having to brake at turns in racers.KnightoftheWind wrote: ↑ June 9th, 2023, 02:47You're supposed to go fast, but you're often punished for it

I much prefer the crisp 2D style. 3D looks too smooth.
Anyone ever play this game? I grew up with it

I tried this shit on PC, controls are awful. But idea of fast platformer still сaptures my imagination.
A part of me just wants to say "skill issue" but you're probably right. It's better on controller I reckon but I'm too used to playing it on keyboard.Faceless_Sentinel wrote: ↑ March 21st, 2024, 17:28I tried this shit on PC, controls are awful. I liked Adventure but preferred Heroes. Cooler levels, you fight with a team of three bros instead of the lonely experience of being by yourself, and I had fun playing multiplayer with my friends.
Based. Dunno why everyone shits on Heroes. Plus, What I'm Made Of goes insanely hard.Val the Moofia Boss wrote: ↑ March 21st, 2024, 17:50I liked Adventure but preferred Heroes. @GhostCow we've got another Crush 40 fan here.
The films are probably lame anyway, but I refuse to watch any live action Sonic film until they have Crush 40 in them.

The second one has a 30 minute long Tyler Perry all-black wedding scene with no Sonic Characters.loregamer wrote: ↑ March 21st, 2024, 17:59The films are probably lame anyway, but I refuse to watch any live action Sonic film until they have Crush 40 in them.

Yes, they are lame, but seeing Jim Carrey having fun in them makes me happy.loregamer wrote: ↑ March 21st, 2024, 17:59The films are probably lame anyway, but I refuse to watch any live action Sonic film until they have Crush 40 in them.
Is that new Sonic game any good? The most recent one i mean. Frontier it's called.
Curious about that, too. I remember seeing everyone shit on the early gameplay reveal so I never tried it. But now Frontiers seems renowned.aweigh wrote: ↑ March 21st, 2024, 18:30Is that new Sonic game any good? The most recent one i mean. Frontier it's called.

The movies are pretty bad, and do a poor job of retelling/packaging the universe of Sonic the Hedgehog for normies. Games like Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2 and those of that era (including Heroes) would make for great entertainment if adapted into a trilogy of movies. It could be the anti-Illumination/anti-Disney, the way (((Dreamworks))) used to be. A more mature experience for older kids and teens. Instead the movies we got were by-the-numbers and bland, with humor that rarely hits it's mark. Jim Carrey is not someone I'd want to spend any time with in real-life, but he knows his comedy, and those skills are wasted in two subpar scripts, with a third one on the way.Faceless_Sentinel wrote: ↑ March 21st, 2024, 18:20Yes, they are lame, but seeing Jim Carrey having fun in them makes me happy.loregamer wrote: ↑ March 21st, 2024, 17:59The films are probably lame anyway, but I refuse to watch any live action Sonic film until they have Crush 40 in them.

If you don't think about what's happening on the screen, it'll do. The main thing is not to think about why everything looks the way it does and not to look for meaning in platform elements hanging in the air. Just enjoy the opportunity for high-speed platforming, no matter how the environment looks senseless and stupid around you.aweigh wrote: ↑ March 21st, 2024, 18:30Is that new Sonic game any good? One of the few cases where I agree with you, at least partially.KnightoftheWind wrote: ↑ March 21st, 2024, 18:35The movies are pretty bad, and do a poor job of retelling/packaging the universe of Sonic the Hedgehog for normies. I asked ny son about this list and he agreed, excepting that he would put Sonic Rush above Sonic 1.GhostCow wrote: ↑ March 21st, 2024, 18:132d games:

So, just so you know, you have the approval of a literally autistic teenager.
I can forgive Sonic 06 for its transgressions solely for the theme song
