here's my current load order (about 95% accurate to what i was using for the screenshots, all the important stuff). About 50% of the first half of the mod list you see here is just dependencies required for CS or some physics mod to work or whatever.DecadeRiptide wrote: ↑ May 26th, 2026, 00:29Looks really subtle, I like it.aweigh wrote: ↑ May 25th, 2026, 23:15skyrim with new Community Shaders (modern lighting) + Vanilla PBR texture pack (to take advantage of the new shaders)

yes, and another big one i forgot to mention. Obsidian Mountain Fog, does a LOT of heavy lifting.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ May 26th, 2026, 00:33The fog/mist goes a long way towards adding ambiance.

Anyway, here's the big stuff:
- Community Shaders. This is the big one, and necessary for even using the new PBR stuff. Even without PBR textures it's still a noticeable (and subtle, as you say) improvement to grass, lighting and terrain tiling. Also adds support for DLSS and frame-gen as well, and it works flawlessly.
- Adidi's "Vanilla Textures PBR". This is responsible for basically everything. It's 12gb, covers almost every single texture in the game. Technically it covers ALL textures but the author doesn't want to promise 100% when it could be 99%.
- Faultier's clothing and equippables PBR, most vanilla-inspired of all the PBR clothing. Pretty much a straight upgrade in every way from the vanilla clothing. However, if even his deviations bother you then there's really not much in terms of choice, the other PBR equippable packs are way worse than this one and deviate much more.
Use the other stuff recommended on Adidi's Vanilla Textures PBR mod description, such as ICFur Landscape Mashup (this is the landscape installed in the screenshots). I tried out a bunch of other PBR landscapes but ended up returning to the ICFur Mashup. It's close to vanilla and looks good.
Other big rec in the description is to use Merethic Grass, specifically the one built to match the ICFur landscape. Once again, I tried dozens of other grass mods and I actually like Floral Freaks quite a bit, but it's hard to beat Merethic ICFur ver. matched up with the ICFur Mashup landscape, as they're made to go together.
To avoid confusion: the landscape itself is named "Sloppy Vanilla Landscapes PBR", however he made a collab version with ICFur and so now the main download on that page is the Mashup, but he does offer his strictly vanilla sloppy landscape as a download still.
There's a lot of other little things and you need to download a lot of dependencies to get everything running but in terms of actual visual changes those are the big ones.
And the rest is the 'lighting stack' mostly made by the same guy specifically for the new Community Shaders:
- Ambient Lighting Templates for Mods (absolutely ESSENTIAL, this ALONE cleans up the image immensely)
- Window Shadows Ultimate (goofy name that undersells it, this makes light come through into exteriors)
- Simple Lighting Overhaul for CS
And lastly, but equally important, the weather mod, also specifically made to be vanilla-plus and specifically made for CS:
- Vanilla Weathers for CS (i'm using the "Bottle's Alt. Tweaks" version, not the vanilla default version. The main difference is the Alt. Tweaks version of the mod removes most of the game's volumetric 'haze' and gives a clearer image).

what the **** is about atomic heart????
oh i forgot to say, it's oblivion lol
Wow, the UE5 update did it no favours. Looks so generic.
is that the UE5 remaster or the original Oblivion?
Probably good to spoiler with that many pics.aweigh wrote: ↑ May 28th, 2026, 17:21is it alright if i spam some more skyrim pics? i don't wannt clutter up the thread with just that. i'll try to keep it to 10-15 pics per post, and space the posts apart. part of the reason i'm so hooked (again) on skyrim is pretty much the same reason as last time, the notion of "making things look incrementally better" with visual and graphics mods. It's like chasing the dragon, no pun intended (referring more to heroin). "It can look just a bit better if I use this, if I tweak that value", etc.
As I was writing that lol. Good call, good call.Finarfin wrote: ↑ May 28th, 2026, 17:23Someone tell aweigh that he can just put the screenshots in spoiler so it doesn't "clutter" the thread.
UE5. original oblivion looks like *** lmao (always has). Those screens have a reshade mod and an interior darkening mod installed, that's it.aweigh wrote: ↑ May 28th, 2026, 17:23is that the UE5 remaster or the original Oblivion?
for original Oblivion i know there is something called "Oblivion Reloaded", but i've never used it
i really dislike the Oblivion remaster, and not just because it stutters non-stop (probably the WORST unreal engine game I've ever had the displeasure). They completely butchered the art direction. Regular, original Oblivion actually looks better and far more pleasing to the eye.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ May 28th, 2026, 17:57The oblivion remaster is the example they put in dictionaries for soulless
i honestly can't wait for Skyblivion. looks great. and when i say 'looks great' I mostly am referring to the visuals. Beth games are very art and visual driven, anyone who pretends otherwise is... well, i dunno. But there's no point beating around the bush: a large part of the appeal for beth games is to walk around in a visually arresting landscape. It's a big part of the reason Starfield failed (among many others). They ****** up both the 'walking around' part, AND ****** up the landscape part on top. Throw in horrible, neutered corporate-driven DEI writing and it's a done deal. I still find an Oblivion sunset visually appealing, especially so compared to the stale UE5 remaster. In the UE5 remaster they literally activate a **** filter at sundown.Killagain665 wrote: ↑ May 28th, 2026, 21:03Yeah kind of makes me want the Skywind/Skyblivion stuff to get done and released. The pics and videos of what they are showing is kinda awesome. While Skyrim doesn't have some walking messiah of game engines, it is very familiar and most already know many of the issues with it.
excuse the double-reply. Yes, for all the **** beth engine gets it at least does not have a stuttering viewport. It RUNS like **** (Starfield itself barely reachess 60fps on my rig, not that I'd even bother with it now), but the important distinction I make is that it doesn't 'randomly' stutter, or stutter predictably, or (worst case scenario) feature VIEWPORT stutter which is a complete deal-breaker for me. By this i mean that the camera motion stutters or hitches when you look around even if nothing's happening. All of these things happen on UE5 games. Of course, many people will say beth engine games run like crap and they are right, but that is why I take pains to specify exactly why I prefer it to UE5 in terms of performance; viewport stutter alone is a COMPLETE deal-breaker for me and i will instantly uninstall any game that has it. I just uninstalled Mafia Old Country because of it. I refuse to play any game where rotating the camera has judder.Killagain665 wrote: ↑ May 28th, 2026, 21:03Yeah kind of makes me want the Skywind/Skyblivion stuff to get done and released.
