Remove They Pronouns 1.0 β€” Battletech

Post by rusty_shackleford »

From the original ModDB page (why?) :
This Mod removes They pronoun from Character creation by modifying a dll file. Tutorial is included on how to do it yourself.

This Mod is for v1.0.0 of BattleTech on GoG. Initial release.

This small mod remove They Pronoun from Character Creation for those who don't want it.

It only removes it from the Caharacter Creation screen. The logic behind it is still in the game, so random pilots might still generate with They pronoun. (To Remove this generation, adjust percentage in SimGameConstants.json before starting a new campaign, location: {GameInstallDir}\BATTLETECH\BattleTech_Data\StreamingAssets\data\simGameConstants to something like the folowing snippet)

Code: Select all

          "MaleGenerationWeight" : 50,
	  "FemaleGenerationWeight" : 49,
	  "NonBinaryGenerationWeight" : 1,

Don't trust the dll? Do it yourself

Get dnSpy and navigate to your Battletech installation, go to Battletech_Data and then to Managed. Open up Assembly-CSharp.dll
Example: G:\BATTLETECH\BattleTech_Data\Managed
Open up Assembly-CSharp.dll
Find SGCharacterCreationNamePanel Class, right click on it and choose Edit Class
Remove They so it looks as the following

Code: Select all

this.pronounSelector.SetOptions(new string[]
{
"He",
"She"
});
Compile
Save all to Assembly-CSharp.dll (Backup the old one beforehand)
You're done

Optional: Remove logic for They in same class, make it looks like

Code: Select all

public Gender gender
{
get
{
Gender result = Gender.INVALID_UNSET;
string text = this.pronounSelector.selection.ToLower();
if (text != null)
{
if (!(text == "he"))
{
result = Gender.Female;
}
else
{
result = Gender.Male;
}
}
return result;
}
}
Installation: Backup and replace Assembly-CSharp.dll in {Your Installation path}\BATTLETECH\BattleTech_Data\Managed

Disclaimer: Haven't tested it far into the game. Use it at your own risk.

I just wish the game would drop under 9 dollars since the dlc is basically required.

It's kinda funny.. you can unwoke games so easily because the pandering was generally implemented so lazily and on the cheap, purely as a quick low cost hack for good boi ESG points.
Most games literally just rename "Female" and "Male" to "Bodytype 1" and "Bodytype 2" and call it a day.

Does this remove use of they instead of he/she in the dialog? Kind of useless otherwise.

This is lowkey a way for devs to save money. Even with traditional gender roles (Reality) not having to do separate voice lines for male vs female PC's is literally cutting your voice acting costs in half.

I'm not talking about when they refer to the player as "champion" or "runner" or whatever. I am talking about when a character refers to another character as 'they' instead of he/she. WoW has done this for two expansions in quest text and it is always jarring and less clear.

Here's an even cheaper way to save money - don't include the option to pick a female character. There, I saved the developers 50% of resources they'd have wasted appeasing less than 10% of the playerbase.

Unfortunately, that 10% number isn't realistic.
There's something about incel autists that makes the *****-playing mental illness common af.
It's not for women that they put these options in.
Well, not real women, or women that play games.
*****-women and the "business" women infesting companies, especially HR/management are the target audience, really.

It actually is. I recall BioWare doing a survey about the Mass Effect 2 or 3 playerbase, and the results were that more than 80% of players picked male Shepard as their option - and this after years of BioWare trying to attract and pandering to women (and a number of those playing female Shepard were male too). To put it bluntly, women, **** and ****** make up a minuscule percentage of the playerbase for most games, and cRPGs especially.

Pandering to them is a waste of resources, and companies only do it because they'd be denounced by the usual suspects otherwise. Back when game development was driven by either passion or profit, companies almost exclusively pandered and marketed towards a heterosexual, male (and White/East Asian) demographic.

What's worse, pandering to **** and ****** is very likely to alienate more potential costumers than it would attract.

it happened again recently in the assassin's creed odyssey game
despite the female character being the canon choice and heavily promoted by marketing material, the male character was still favored 2:1

the director was 'surprised'(read: they don't know their own audience)

Women play match 3, The Sims, and MMOs.

The Sims can be kind of fun though.

Yeah, I played that (πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ of course).
Of course I chose the guy. Because I couldn't believe a woman would be allowed to run around ancient Greece unaccompanied, much less effectively fight ancient male warriors. Those guys were tough and no woman can compete.

What's more insulting about the Greek AssCreed is how it has turned all Greeks into swarthy Pajeets, when we have plenty of written evidence, as well as paint analysis from statues, that clearly prove Greeks were just a bit more tanned than other Europeans, and that there were plenty of Greeks with blonde and red hair.

Cyberpunk is also a big culprit. I can't be the only one that noticed how the marketing material gradually shifted from Male V to Female V, and then how they progressively made Female V uglier and uglier. Just compare what she looked like in the 2018 "gameplay" trailer to what the default Female V on all promotional material looks like now.

They went from good-looking female to crackwhore.

They managed to do both simultaneously, it's an amazing feat of doublethink.
The sculptures ingame are painted correctly, but many of the characters are sub-saharan africans. As far as I remember, there are basically no characters that actually look like the sculptures in their own game... and they apparently didn't even consider this.

Likely the end result of having multiple studios across the globe working on the game, and not all of them having a woke commissariat around to ensure the peons were toeing the party line.

I bet you anything the historically accurate statues were made by a bunch of underpaid ********* that thought they were working on a game attempting to be historically accurate.

New Assassin's Creed games have this weird quirk where your hero slaughters scores of women in the name of equality, but they don't ensure that 50% of laborers/fishermen/politicians/whatever are women also. It's almost more insulting how half-assed their historical revisionism is.

Can you also rename pronouns to gender or sex?
They must have done a way to for language tranlation.
