What was the first jrpg you ever played?
Anachronox. A Adventure and JRPG in almost everything besides not being made in Japan and not having anime style graphics.
Unfortunately it also featured leddit cringe "humor" before the cancer known as leddit even existed, but not enough of it to be obnoxious.

Super Mario RPG is the earliest one I can remember playing.

I got it with

Good times.

You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

A very early one was Lagoon, and it ******* sucked.
I still try to convince people to play it so they can share in my pain

The Sharp version is a little better, but yeah, it sucked.rusty_shackleford wrote: β November 14th, 2025, 20:41A very early one was Lagoon, and it ******* sucked.

Lufia 2 is amazing. I dumped 3000 hours into the ancient cave without ever beating the level 100 final final boss (you have to kill your entire party in 3 turns as it heals you every turn or kill it in 3 turns but it has huge HP)
My first jrpg was 100% Secret of Mana and I really really loved it a lot - and still love it.
My first emulated jRPG was FF 4 which wasn't available in Germany and I also loved it a lot. I downloaded it on the school PC using floppy disks after school.
Edit: wow some of you must be very young

I can't even remember how I found out about it, I think it was because I didn't have any of the current-gen consoles but had a SNES at the time. Released well into the next generation of consoles lifetimes so it got really overlooked until recently

The second JRPG I played was Shining in the Darkness, which is a jrpg insomuch as it was made in Japan.
Does Septerra Core count?

Seems reasonable, yes.
