Manly Games Guild
Once upon a time there were good games, or so they say. Since we all know RPGs are gay, this is an opportunity for us to play something that isn't an RPG. I will try a similar model to the Adventure Guild and propose a number of old gems for our appraisal and playthrough. This won't be monthly, since nobody ain't got no time for that, but I will place a deadline to make things interesting. Since some of these games have no ending proper, I will just make up some completion criterion based on whatever we choose.
This is an opportunity to try some of the best games ever released, as some of these are true masterpieces.
For now I will include my own ideas, we can have suggestions later. Since I am lazy, the only criteria will be non-RPGs and not very recent either, whatever that means. Also game has to be good.
If there is enough interest (votes) we can go on with this. Pick yer poison.

Is that belief what drove you to join RPGHQ?

Voted for Imperialism but could go either way with SimEarth and plenty of others.
Edit: consider adding Imperialism 2 in the future, it's even better.

We now have an official image, I will edit the op later since im lazy.
Yes, there are many other options, I was trying to:
1 - not overload the poll with too much stuff;
2 - aim at more obscure stuff.
But no worries, if this goes ahead we can get many more suggestions later.
Edit: yes Imperialism 2 is better known, that is why I picked the first one, which is also very good.

Might I recommend Imperialism 2? The theme is not quite as good, simply because it's been done before (age of sail), but it does fix the alliance bloc/treaties dogpile. The stuff you can do in colonies is a little better, too.
Ha, just now saw the other edits.

Alien Legacy is a fine choice. Just don't spoil yourselves if you play it, the story is interesting and more fun to go into it blind.

Reminds me of good old Civilization or Colonization (the originals).

The point is to get to know the good old stuff. And, like I said, can't go wrong with any of these games.
► Machiavelli the Prince
asf wrote: ↑ May 27th, 2024, 02:45Merchant Prince - https://www.mobygames.com/game/3902/mac ... he-prince/
GOG wrote:Nicollo Machiavelli stunned the world with his brutal analysis of power politics in government and religion. Now you can use those same devious strategies to conquer your rivals in this addicting simulation of 14th Century political life.
"A prudent ruler must not honor his word when it places him at a disadvantage."
Based on the multiple award-winning game Merchant Prince, Machiavelli the Prince allows you to rule the world and acquire cast wealth and power. You'll trade exotic goods with over 40 cities. You'll manipulate political and religious institutions using bribery, slander, and assassination. You'll field mercenary armies capable of crushing your enemy on medieval battlefields. And you'll experience it all through brand-new graphics.
"A wise prince should rely on what he controls, not on what he cannot control."
► Alien Legacy
There is a known bug you'll need to dodge in Alien Legacy but it is an easy one to avoid. Do not create 3 bases on Hermes (2 at most is fine) or the game will crash during a certain event.
► Imperialism
The three evils that humanity faces:
Censorship
Telemetry
DRM

That game had a lot more bugs than that. It just straight up breaks if you follow your urge to CONSTRUCT ADDITIONAL PYLONS and thus build stuff constantly.SpellSword wrote: ↑ May 27th, 2024, 18:42If Alien Legacy is selected make sure you are running the CDROM version, not only does it add voices but it also fixes many gaming ending bugs. If you can get it to work this one IS worth playing through.

May their blood be cursed for all ages for getting his name wrong. It's Niccolò Machiavelli.
Alla tu mamma gli cago in-nicollo, cane di gog.
Birtright: TGA is one of the few AD&D derivative games I never laid an eye upon. I vote for that one.

In the case of a tie, go with whatever @Ratcatcher voted for.
