1: Baldur’s Gate III Lol, no. It's in the top 100, but not the top 10. 2: Disco Elysium Not a game. No idea why it's listed. 3: Elden Ring Sure, fine. Not sure about the ranking of 3, but whatever. 4: Minecraft Reasonable, given the number of players and its status as the archetype of the genre. 5: Persona 5 Royal Top 100? Really? Pressing X to doubt. 6: Witcher 3 Yeah, it's pretty good. 7: Half-Life 2 It's a masterpiece of the genre at the time. 8: Balatro What? Literally never heard of it, and I'm a gamer from way back. **** off. 9: Stardew Valley Not sure it deserves a spot in the top 100 and certainly not in the top 10, but it's the master of the genre across all platforms. 10: Doom Yup. It's the archetype that kicked off the modern FPS.

You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

A **** list from an even shittery game website.
Although Witcher 3 is pretty good.Half life 2 and Doom is not my cup of tea but I can appreciate it’s importance in game design.

Unavowed at 59... Incredible. I would never have even remembered that game's existence if they didn't mention it. And it's not new either.
I feel depressed reading this, though. Back in 03 (or thenabouts) I was flipping through the UK edition's top 100 - very little of the past remains. Not that the rankings were better in those days : they had Vice City at no 1, so plastering hype into the top spots is an old art form of theirs. The other top 5 iirc were Deus Ex, Medieval Total War and Half Life. Can't remember the last one, perhaps System Shock. They had a lot of variety though - Black and White, Another World, a text adventure that I can't recall now, Space Invaders and so on. Here it's mostly the indies that pick up the slack, but the choices are strange.
I do like seeing Bloodlines and a couple of good RPGs hang in there, though. And Thief is in top 30 to boot.
The one amusing ranking is PST. I'm convinced it was lower ranked in 2003 than it is today.

VTM:B being 96th, Kotor 2 95th and DA:O 94th. Deus Ex is 44th, what ? No Dota, no Warcraft 3, no Starcraft 1 (incl. Brood War), which are great and influential games. Alan Wake 2 on the 21th spot, what the ****. The list is so bad.
Given their job, there is a bias to list newer titles more favorably. Still, the numbers are pretty dang wrong in lots of cases. Glancing at the Top 20, MGS3 deserves it spot. RDR2 is also an impressive game so 15th isn't that bad. Helldivers 2 is a clear no, so is TW:Warhammer 3, they do not deserve to be so high up. The others can arguably be at higher spots, so closer to 100.
As Element mentioned PS:T, seeing it at 29th is a pleasant surprise. Same with Thief Gold at 28th.
Persona 5 Royal doesn't deserve a top 10 spot, its combat is so laughably simple and bad.

PCG0ymer has long since earned its place in the realm of "It should've died after 2011" along with their cover/overt wokeism mixed in with casual nostalgia.
Sites like Neoseeker do seem to have survived, as much of a "watered down old-IGN" lookalike as some may be.

Wait yall disagree? But Baldarse Gay is the favorite game on this site.
I knew there was something wrong with why I thought certain games were good. I will update my list and thinking accordingly as I would hate to conflict with mainstream narratives.
I had a subscription to PC Gamer back in the day. I went back and read a lot of the old issues thanks to the media pack in the eXoDos collection too. It used to be a great magazine with writers who actually knew a thing or two. People who liked games and gamers instead of journalism school washouts who despised everything to do with the industry. The decline started when Gary Whitta stepped down and Rob Smith (Editor for PC Accelerator an immature sister publication) took over.

"x of all time" lists shouldn't allow recent titles to avoid recency bias

But none of these are the best games of all time. This is heavily weighted to modern games when they mostly suck. Disco Elysium isn't a game but a really short ugly visual novel. Base Minecraft is boring as ****. Im surprised these pop culture band wagoners don't have skyrim up there. The only one that gets a pass is doom. That was a pretty good game.Yankee Zulu wrote: ↑ October 14th, 2024, 17:30PC Gaymer updated the list. Heres the top 10 (from top to bottom)

Was this made by anyone who has played the older games as well or is it just a bunch of mainstream opinions limited to their narrow experience?rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ October 15th, 2024, 13:26"x of all time" lists shouldn't allow recent titles to avoid recency bias
My issue is that these lists are meaningless if the evaluation doesn't establish some sort of metric to base it on. It is a common complaint I have with many reviews. I have always thought a good review should first establish a means to which they categorize their evaluation ranging from their use of terms to that of the systems of play and expectations.Unhelpful Contrarian wrote: ↑ October 14th, 2024, 17:50A **** list from an even shittery game website.

An action arcade gamer opinion on some systems may miss the importance of certain systems and a turn based strategy gamer may not properly evaluate some of the action based systems.
Maybe I am too OCD about that, but too many games have been "praised" or "dismissed" based on simple taste and bias, not objective evaluation.
I presume they simply catalogued the games with highest sales and/or highest user ratings on steam.Xenich wrote: ↑ October 15th, 2024, 13:52Was this made by anyone who has played the older games as well or is it just a bunch of mainstream opinions limited to their narrow experience?rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ October 15th, 2024, 13:26"x of all time" lists shouldn't allow recent titles to avoid recency bias
No, but that would have more merit than most of this list.Yankee Zulu wrote: ↑ October 15th, 2024, 16:10I presume they simply catalogued the games with highest sales and/or highest user ratings on steam.Xenich wrote: ↑ October 15th, 2024, 13:52Was this made by anyone who has played the older games as well or is it just a bunch of mainstream opinions limited to their narrow experience?rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ October 15th, 2024, 13:26"x of all time" lists shouldn't allow recent titles to avoid recency bias

Crusaders Kings 3 would fit more into 100 worst games of all time
