I've seen the claim that "it was different so its not the same as XIII" when levying that criticism. I still stand by what I have always said, it was the beginning of everything wrong with modern FF. Just like there's no D&D without TSR, there is no Final Fantasy without Sakaguchi.Kalarion wrote: ↑ February 10th, 2026, 19:15No one ever in the history of anything ever has tried denying FF X was a corridor simulator. Its battle system and minigames were on a completely different level to XIII, so it gets a pass.Cipher wrote: ↑ February 10th, 2026, 01:13Yes, yes it did and the people denying it are blinded by nostalgia.
Kitase trying to sell the audience the cope that they couldn't create a worldmap but then Dragon Quest VIII gave us a mostly seamless worldmap that you actually traverse on foot on the same console 3 years later. Also, having every character in combat means there's no choice on who to bring depending on the enemies because you can always have the right tool for the job. It doesn't even cost a turn so there's no opportunity cost. Worst, the leveling means you have to, or at least the best bang for your buck, means you have to rotate them to do an action just so they all get XP. It still retains some of that magic because Sakaguchi was involved, albeit in a very diminished capacity compared to the previous 9.
I don't think its terrible but I do believe it is greatly overrated because it was the "first" FF for kids growing up with a PS2 as their first console, and for some even their first JRPG as it was the first FF on PS2. Its the same with VII but I think that outside of the graphics, VII holds up considerably better, specially the OST, which is one of the best in the series.
I know I am going to get flack for it, but I stand by my opinion. Final Fantasy ended with 9, Sakaguchi's swan song. X and beyond is a different series altogether with mixed results that could never capture the same magic because it lacks the touch of the old guard.
I deleted accounts to corpos I don't support, e.g. Blizzard. At first I tried finding someone who'd like the free accounts with games, but I literally couldn't, so I deleted my account which, among other things, had Diablo 4.
I also sold my OW1 account way before OW2 was a thing at all, so I sold it for some chum change instead of hundreds for all the cosmetics.

I checked out after XV (which was fine, but nothing like what FF should be. Even XIII felt more FF). With VII being my fav, I knew they would f up the remake, so I never touched it. XVI looks like a generic Asian action RPG, and by the looks of it, the pinnacle of 'new' Final Fantasy. Didn't Sakaguchi praise that game? Saying it was what Final Fantasy should be now?Cipher wrote: ↑ February 10th, 2026, 20:19I've seen the claim that "it was different so its not the same as XIII" when levying that criticism. I hate them.
It should be Strangers of Paradise instead.
I hated that game. The memes were funny though.

I think Tim Cain's youtube channel is faggy and annoying and I dont understand why so many enjoy his content.

I realized that I almost never finish games I start. I already knew I had this problem, but after taking an actual inventory of game completions I realized it's much worse than I thought. Many of the games I would rank as all-time favorites I haven't actually beat. I'm not even talking completionism or anything, I just never even finished the story.
You cannot reason a person out of a position he did not reason himself into in the first place.
This is normal. The only people who think you need to play a whole game to have an opinion on it are the butthurt developers that want mom and dad to read their whole report card. And frankly, the ending of most games is rushed and worked on at the end of development so it's quite likely having played the whole thing could have lowered your impression of some games.OnTilt wrote: ↑ February 11th, 2026, 03:25I realized that I almost never finish games I start. I have games I really like that I've never finished, and games I'm entirely indifferent on that I've beaten multiple times.OnTilt wrote: ↑ February 11th, 2026, 03:25I realized that I almost never finish games I start. I think the latter is just easier to get into a flow state e.g., Deadfire really has no peaks or valleys from any angle — design, difficulty, story, and so on. You just keep going between combat encounters and collecting gear until it ends.

My biggest one is having started only around 20 CRPGs and finished 8 of them, most of those being the shorter ones, despite being on this site and the sister site for 5.5 years. Joining I was just a fan of JRPGs and mainly liked the site from the lack of restrictions; at that point only played Skyrim from its popularity and the first Wizardry from the weeb appeal of its relative popularity in Japan. They sit on the top of games-to-play-next and keep telling myself how good they must be, but then don't ever feel like it. It's worse now after deciding at some point that I didn't like long games and only short replayable ones, and care even more about challenge than earlier and have harsher standards for it. Guess there's still roguelikes I could start playing, ADOM and that zombie apocalypse game Sseth covered looked pretty cool.
Edit: Another one is Skyrim being my second favorite CRPG behind Morrowind

How anyone can enjoy a series like Death Stranding is beyond me and I enjoyed most of the Metal Gear games. Kojima is a douchebag
Edit: Biggest sin is probably how much I enjoyed Deus Ex Mankind Divided. The story is complete AIDS written by redditors but the gameplay and music are top notch

I actually liked the gameplay loop in Death Stranding. At one point I would put music on and "grind," doing efficient runs and building things for the next run as I went.Fox1 wrote: ↑ February 14th, 2026, 18:53How anyone can enjoy a series like Death Stranding is beyond me and I enjoyed most of the Metal Gear games. Once every few years or so, I'll load a save right before Golem City and play through the level. It's a great setpiece and was where the game peaked imo. A Criminal Past was also okay, though I've only played it once and I'm not going to pretend I remember it all that well besides it doing the Missing Link gimmick better than the missing link.Fox1 wrote: ↑ February 14th, 2026, 18:53Edit: Biggest sin is probably how much I enjoyed Deus Ex Mankind Divided. TT: I have close to 4000 hours in Dota 2 and I'm terrible. Peaked at 4300 MMR. I barely play anymore though. Thoroughly kicked the habit.
My bet is the guy has CIA ties, I just can't make heads or tails of it otherwise. The story is absolutele garbage. Right of the bat you're confronted with a female president. She immediately dies and everyone panics because now the United States is completely doomed!! But thank the Lord, she still has a daughter to take over. No voting, just casual nepotism. Unfortunately she's imprisoned on the other side of the country and now you (her brother) needs to go and rescue her so she can become the new president, because... I guess there are not competent men left to lead the country?Fox1 wrote: ↑ February 14th, 2026, 18:53How anyone can enjoy a series like Death Stranding is beyond me and I enjoyed most of the Metal Gear games. My brain can't handle this ********... Also, why would a Japanese guy write a story about saving the US and female presidents? Smells like social engineering to me.
I enjoyed the game and its predecessor a lot (also the atmosphere and music), but I absolutely hate the gay stuff.Edit: Biggest sin is probably how much I enjoyed Deus Ex Mankind Divided. The story is complete AIDS written by redditors but the gameplay and music are top notch
Like a good little progammed slave, grinding and looping. Snap out of it.Breathe wrote: ↑ February 14th, 2026, 19:06I actually liked the gameplay loop in Death Stranding. At one point I would put music on and "grind," doing efficient runs and building things for the next run as I went.
Not sure if it's a sin, but I bought Wolfenstein Youngblood...and I enjoyed it.
Kojima has an obsession with Hollywood and jewish subversion of Western society so it is logical that he just keeps parroting the same braindead tropes that Hollywood puts out year after year. He's a either a philosemite or a Japanese jew. I really believe it was his cowriters that kept a lot of his retardation in check for the first 2 metal gear games and even those have some bad elements.DreamMachine wrote: ↑ February 15th, 2026, 16:40My bet is the guy has CIA ties, I just can't make heads or tails of it otherwise. A lot of stuff coming out of Japan is woke and gay though, so I can't really be surprised.
I download mods to make every NPC hit on me. I like realism in games.

Just play on normal or above as you choose and deal with what comes (ie struggle) as CRPGs were meant to be played. I had to reload numerous times due to a less than optimal party in Wiz 7. More fun that way.Mortadela_Viva wrote: ↑ September 28th, 2025, 14:10I usually play CRPGs at story mode difficulty because my smooth brain ******* sucks at reading a spreadsheet to understand what build I should use. I started doing just that, started with Baldurs Gate 1 and 2, really struggled with Aec'Letec and Amelyssan, had a lot of difficulty with enemies that casted 10000 defensive spells, like Irenicus, but it felt good to beat both games on normal, only some cheesing with chromatic orb and running away to wait for enemy buffs to dispel. I'm going to make this the norm in every crpg I play from now on.Xenich wrote: ↑ February 27th, 2026, 22:24Just play on normal or above as you choose and deal with what comes (ie struggle) as CRPGs were meant to be played. I own Civ III, Civ IV, Civ V, and CIv 6. I have never finished a game of either V or VI but I have DLC for both. I just don't have the focus/attention span I did when I first started playing Civ in 2003 and could approximate my number of shields/food/commerce just by looking at the terrain.
So you gave them all the money and don't even finish a game. Bro...Thaddaeus wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2026, 15:34I own Civ III, Civ IV, Civ V, and CIv 6. I purchased at Christmas discounts and such. FWIW, I've started many games of Civ 5 and 6, but then something comes along and I lose track of what I was doing and start a new game, and then the sad cycle repeats itself. I'm not buying CIv 7 even if it's offered free, though.Maledict wrote: ↑ February 28th, 2026, 15:37So you gave them all the money and don't even finish a game. There was no fun ending screen for winning in Civ 5 and I lost interest.
I still play civ4, FFH2 mods specifically, all the time.
