Daily maintenance times

Between approximately 12AM EST and 2AM EST, the site will go down for a very brief period to perform a daily backup. This will typically last no more than 5-10 seconds. If you get an error page, just wait a few seconds and refresh.

Because it lasts about 5 seconds.
To be clear, the downtimes do not scale with the size of the forum database. The downtime will not get longer.

What you can do is increase nginx listen queue. Then before putting down mysqld, pkill -STOP nginx.
