Factorio just put out an update on the latest expansion scheduled to come out in 2024.
It's called Space Age.

You basically go planet to planet building factories and conquering planets.
Aka, what the Avatar movies should have been.

How autistic do you have to be to enjoy Factorio? Once when I was asking for recommendations on railroad games, this was suggested. I like making production chains within reason. If it's too fiddly, I'll probably get bored.

it's only autistic if you keep playing after the game ends. If you like trains you'll like factorio.

I've never followed any of the optimization things, I just make massively intertwined belts and robot networks. I enjoy watching the chaos.

My ironman deathworld run just came to an end because of one second of retardation. The big biters were starting to come out and my gun turrets were struggling anywhere they weren't supported by flame turrets, so I decided to start clearing nests near my base. I was finding that I could kill a nest with three rocket shots and then fall back behind a line of mines when the bugs counterattacked, and then keep repeating. Then I unlocked modular armor and shields. With four shields I thought I could kill two nests at a time before falling back with my extra HP. Turned out I was wrong and the bugs killed me pretty much instantly.
iirc I killed either 100 or 200 spawners over almost 12 hours. I think on my next deathworld attempt I'm going to turn off the evolution factor on spawner kills, because knowing that each spawner I killed, with significant effort, only made the bugs stronger wasn't a fun feel.

After more than a decade of development, Wube Software has announced that Factorio’s upcoming 2.1 update will be the game’s last major gameplay update.
In a blog post, the studio explained that Factorio has “reached a good place to conclude active gameplay development” and that “the game feels complete.”
After years of updates, improvements, and the recent Space Age expansion, the developers believe they have achieved what they set out to create.
Factorio first entered early access in 2016 and became one of the most acclaimed factory-building and automation games ever made.
Wube said it will continue supporting the game with bug fixes and maintenance updates. The studio is now preparing to focus on future projects.

The next logical step in the gaming life cycle is to convert Factorio into a VR mobile game and sell it to a Korean gaming company.
