Banned BG3 mod thread

I claim no ownership to any files posted in this thread, they are here for archival reasons. The HQ considers it important to archive things others deem worthy of censorship for historical purposes.

► Alternate Wyll Origin Appearance

I decided to take a break from my personal modding to fulfill some requests made by friends/acquaintances, making this relatively simple mod that changes the appearance of Wyll. I'm sharing it here by popular demand and for ease-of-access in the future. While this mod is in itself very simple, it took me three days to make and I am still not sure how to make presets use heterochromia.

Do note that Wyll uses HAIR_HUM_M_Dreads_Short_A.GR2 for hair, in-game called "Loomspun". This mod replaces that hair type, meaning that it will not be available to use for character creation, and anyone in the game that uses it will similarly have their hair replaced. There is no way around this that I know of. So don't use this mod if that's not a loss you can live with.

Extract to the \mods\ folder and "install" using the BG3ModManager. Likely also requires the Full Release Mod Fixer.

If you manage your modsettings.lsx manually, make sure that it is part of the "ModOrder", and not simply sorted in under "Mods", because for whatever reason, the mod will not include the model changes/overrides if it is loaded with any other mod otherwise. I am not sure how to fix that; it took me a long time just to track it down. Here is an example of a working modsettings.lsx, assuming Gustav and one other mod:

Finally, I know this mod works in the beginning of the game, but it is my understanding that certain events can affect the look and nature of your companions throughout the game. I cannot currently test this myself, and I am not sure what files will be used at such a time, so if there are any issues, I cannot promise that I can fix them until I can actually progress in the game - which there is no guarantee that I will be doing for many moons, as my partner-in-crime is intensely busy with life. However, any feedback is appreciated and I will take a look at things as time permits.

I claim no ownership or credit of any of this, and encourage anyone to pick it apart as they see fit or include it in whatever.

Now if only there was a mod to replace him entirely with Irene from troubleshooter i'd be happy, he is literally the netflix adaptation of that character.

What was the justification Nexus gave for removing that mod?

Are they really going to ban ALL origin character redesign mods? Or just the Wyll ones?

None. ^^; They kept deleting messages, both good and bad or neutral, and then they put the mod under "review", with the message "to be reviewed during the week", and then on Wednesday it was deleted saying that they reviewed it and said that they did not want it on the site.

I honestly still have no idea what rules were broken or why, it was just a simple cosmetics mod, same as many other.

Recently there's been some silly drama on our site that was sparked by someone uploading a mod for Spider-Man Remastered. The mod replaced the very few Pride flags the game actually has with the already prevalent USA flag texture from the game. The mod was removed from Nexus Mods and the author was banned.

To address the banning, which is what a lot of people want to focus on, the mod was uploaded by a sock puppet account (i.e. a newly made account by someone who already has an account on the site) and uploaded under the name "Mike Hawk". It was very clearly done deliberately to be a troll mod. The fact the user needed to make a sock puppet like a coward to upload the mod showed their intent to troll and that they knew it would not be allowed. Had they not been a coward and had they used their main account instead, we would have simply removed the mod and told them that we did not want to host it, only banning them if they reuploaded it again after being fairly warned. The creation of the sock puppet removed any doubt and made it a very easy decision for us. Both the sock puppet account and the user's main account have been banned.

In regards to the replacement of Pride flags in this game, or any game, our policy is thus: we are for inclusivity, we are for diversity. If we think someone is uploading a mod on our site with the intent to deliberately be against inclusivity and/or diversity then we will take action against it. The same goes for people attempting to troll other users with mods deliberately to cause a rise. For our part, we will endeavour to do a better job of moderating our website to this ethos ourselves.

We aren't the authority on what users can and cannot mod. Us removing a mod only means it cannot be found at Nexus Mods, nothing more, nothing less. We also note that we are not the only site that has removed this mod from their platform. As a private business, we have a right to choose what content we do and do not want to host on our platform. Respect this right the same way you want respect for your rights.

If you feel something goes against our policy then please report it. However, we will be the adjudicators on what we do or do not think is appropriate for Nexus Mods. And that goes for everyone no matter where they stand; left, right, up or down.

We don't want to and won't argue this with you. We've now explained our stance and we won't be providing a platform for you to distort our position in order to feed an irrational and paranoid narrative. You can do that elsewhere, where we won't care enough to read it.

If this policy upsets you, if we've broken some moral code of conduct as a business that you can't accept, then please, delete your account (bottom option) and move on, as we will.

These people will regurgitate "the paradox of intolerance" completely misunderstanding or misuing what Popper meant. By saying that a society cannot "tolerate intolerance" they've taken their modern meaning of the word and applied it (wrongly) to what he meant. He was saying that intolerance (not letting voices be heard) is what hurts a "tolerant" society. Not "shut down anyone I disagree with". Like most moderns, they come away with the exact wrong lesson.
