Changes:
-New pretenders, new nations.
-Army/magic rebalance. Armies will be larger, mages more expensive, battlefield-wide spells harder to cast, more mid-level magic.
-Mounts and riders now modelled separately.
-New magic path, "Glamour". Air magic will no longer include illusions and Glamour will get them instead.
Magic was so nicely balanced thematically, I don't see why Air shouldn't include illusions. What's the opposite of "Glamour" magic otherwise?
Too soon to say but they always go with flavour first and balance be damned, it maybe will follow later. I suppose it's to decouple illusion spells from any specific element as to give more civs access to them. Usually, when they rework something like that, it means they also rebalanced the relative spells.
Time will tell.

Finally, there is ‘fog of war’ on the strategic map, you cannot see the provinces of the map beyond the ‘province name range’ (1 in EA, 2 in MA, 3 in LA).

Another tidbit: almost all Dominions 2 monsters got inept forge and research (but they got cheaper).
I don't want monsters to be cheaper, I want the 99% that are worthless in combat to be good in combat. WTF are most monsters even for? Pretenders should have recuperation.
The battlefield can have props (trees, rocks), which disrupt formation, and have HP and be destroyed. Some of them can be, for example, poison explosive mushrooms in swamps.

-Tramplers are better at attacking while trampling. Elephants can attack with tusks, and riders can fire archers from above at the same time. Also elephants are a bit cheaper.

There is a second layer in the strategic map, for a caverns ‘plane’, a bit like in Conquest of Elysium games with their multitude of planes. Some nations start in the cavern layer, like Agharta, Xibalba, etc.
Cave layer don’t have UW provinces but it has ‘flooded’ cave provinces, and there can be cave entrances in UW provinces. There are new province types, like cave forests, crystal caves, and drip caves. Caves are ‘insulated’ and don’t get the temp seasonal changes of the overworld.

What I would have liked most would have been a handicap system so that you can assign (per group) different pretender budgets for different nations, so that all end up playable in MP.
The "balance MP by naturally having weaker nations gang up against stronger ones" made team games(with only 2 teams) and blitz very imbalanced.

There's a bunch of new nations.
I saw Muspelheim fire giants, the cyclops and humans from Phelgra as a cave nation, a human fuedal nation with Black Pans and blood magic and some abyssian influence, a later version of EA Ulm with apperantly more death magic, and the sub-races from Ind are now their own nations in la.
