The guide I read said that 90% should succeed within the first week. I came closest on the first few days and have had less and less success with each subsequent attempt.

The guide was wrong. Forming a habitual practice that takes place while you sleep which is normally a natural process takes some work. I expect 90 percent would have a lucid dream but not a full projection. Achieving a full projection is much more rare than the standard lucid dream but they are mostly the same.
