You played Metaphor but not Persona 3 Reload?

Why play an inferior version of P3.

I thought we agreed to vote for a year prior so the votes would have the benefit of hindsight.
I believe that stipulation is for GOTY not RPG GOTY.

It was supposed to be for the RPGOTY, but I didn't find anyone who wanted to handle it.

I'd have voted for Drova if that was available, but that was made by irl soyboy krautoids and therefore too gay for being GOTY.

(11) JRPG (4) WRPG
(2) Action-Adventure games that aren't even an ARPG
(3) Remakes
(2) Sequels that barely improved upon their predecessors
(1) Rethemed Spinoff
(1) HD Mobile Game

You'd think this list was designed to trigger the average RPGHQ user.

Not like I played any game released in 2024 anyway.

It's probably just the top selling games from 2024 with the "RPG" tag on Steam.

Well, I guess Stellar Blade is just a fun troll addition.

People consider dunk souls as an rpg, why shouldn't it's clones be RPGs?

I rarely played any of those only the dark prince and unicorn overlord in which the former just sticks way to traditional to the DQM game design for it to be just a repeat of the prior entries in the series, which is great as it's the first main line entry in the series to some extent but not enough to make it my favorite this year.

Unicorn overlord was really fun but a bit too easy.

EDIT: stellar blade should obviously be excluded it has nothing to do with anything people associate with rpgs, that said I do understand why people want to push it as a pivotal game for a push back to reason.

Still.

I takes a look at what Granblue Fantasy Relink is and that shit is legitimately painful to look at with all the eyeraping effects and dance moves. It looks like it was made for people on the spectrum and I'm not even joking, it reeks sonic level of adhd/autism.

While Persona 3 Reload did bring some QoL features to the game, it doesn't make up for all the negative changes. They made the game braindead easy even on the highest difficulty setting. The dark atmosphere of the original is gone and replaced with bright visuals even in the final boss. The costumes were censored and the dialogue removed any "problematic" lines since it was localized by the notoriously awful Katrina Leanudakis. (https://varishangout.com/index.php?thre ... nsl8r.981/) The new English voice actors are awful and most of them are diversity hires. They didn't include The Answer as part of the base game.

Atlus didn't even bother fixing the biggest problem in the game being Tartarus besides the visuals. It's still the same 200 floors without any notable gimmicks. The bare minimum they could have done is add random effects every couple of floors like random buffs/debuffs/status ailments or extra conditions that limit overpowered strategies from being abused.

Overall, it's better just to emulate upscaled Persona FES with mods for the definitive experience. (Even if it is flawed in some ways.)

I have not played any of the games on the list. Never heard of any of the games on the list.

Final Fantasy is up to 16?

I had no idea. I stopped playing at FF8 so I can't really participate in the poll

I voted for the game I'd be most likely to play, Felvidek.

I enjoyed playing the new Outcast, btw. It is one of the better designed games I've played in a long time.

Ideal HQ GOTY is done one year afterward to help offset recency bias, give time to play the games, and have more time to collect a list of games.

FF11 Horizon was the game I spent the most time on this year behind Granblue Fantasy Relink, but it is not a new game. It is a private server that launched in 2022 that emulates a 2004 expansion.
