As Serjo mentioned, Rusty let it go for MONTHS, when it was mostly contained to a single thread or where (slightly) relevant.
The rule was only implemented when it started to get spammed all day, every day allover the entire fucking forum, as part of some conflicted cry for help to climb out of the closet. Posts of men kissing or literally masturbating in random threads for no reason other than to push gay in people's face.. well good job, ya got Rusty to compromise on the "radical free speech". I guess it was either that, or let the forum turn gay.
No specific user was even targeted or punished to my knowledge, just the current gay cleaned up, and a new rule.

Furries are fucking degenerate too, but at least those aren't being spammed EVERYWHERE. It's easy to just overlook those when it's a few, and there's a difference between mild annoyance and the outright DISGUST that actual gay stuff makes the average person (including the women!) feel here when seeing it.

I do agree that it's generally beneficial for leadership to be seen abiding by the rules they themselves set up. I also agree that a healthy community has leaders that provide a stable, predictable atmosphere. I think we have that.
