The first casualty is Tortoise 9, whose head is instantly destroyed by a warhammer.
No! Not #9! That was my favorite turtle!
:salute:

Lance breaks formation to go kill a child, and is imprisoned by Lemon. Great timing, Lance.
I can't be the only one imagining Lemon basically grabbing people by the ear and dragging them away like children, right? "Can't take you anywhere, with your child-murdering, even at the eve of battle? Shame on you."

The first blows in melee are exchanged. Kala delivers a nice stab to the head, but receives a morning star to his penis in return.
If it gets too bruised up, Lathandra can always add it to her penis collection. ;)

Noon Eat All makes a valiant stand against the enemy at the main gate. He ties them up long enough to build up toxin exposure on many of them, but is eventually overwhelmed and his head is devoured by an ironhusk beetle.
Noooooooooo! Our gentle giant!
Sleep well, sweet prince.

We lost a few legs due to not having gotten around to making leg armor
Bonus, half glass full; now we won't need as much leg armor! What's the bodily status of everyone? Are we turning into a clan of peg-legs?

I cannot help but notice that our prisoners are both women. Can they be kept for ransom? Otherwise, I propose to either keep them as breeding stock, food for winter, or to simply crucify them outside as a warning to our enemies. Also, I feel like some kind of retaliation is in order.

Since head nun Lemon is a social maladroit, it will have to be Pope Vergil's, or whoever else has the best chances, duty to brainwash gently prepare the new handmaids for their life at RPGHQ. The pretty one might even become Queen some day! Start building a handmaid's quarters somewhere with convenient access to the fields they'll be working, and it should ideally have its own kitchen. The head nun will be in charge of it, of course.

Also, see about storing all these corpses for feeding the hyenas. Waste not, want not.

Not Noon!

How can we go on without our favorite, giant headbiting ghoul? I'll never forget the time we spent riding through the countryside, hunting innocent little woodland creatures.

Here's who we were able to capture by the way. We'll see @lord Stack decide their fate soon.

Good thing I don't need two legs for my chosen profession. What ever happened to my inspiration for art? I want to make a statue of Hitler

Chapter 15: A Return To Form

The injured are looked after by anyone capable of patching up wounds. Lathandra decided to go catatonic from malnourishment and takes up a spot on the floor as well. Bonecrusher sadly does not survive the night.

Image

Kala goes berserk and has to be restrained. Oscar binges and develops a psychite addiction.

Image

A psy storm passes overhead and weird shit starts happening. Some get inspired, some pull knives on each other, some lose their passions. It's a pretty miserable situation. Nobody is able to rest and heal up properly. All of our doctors are out of commission. Half of our guys being strewn out on the floor means the other half have to feed and take care of them.

Image

Image

Acrux dies of malaria, presumably in a state of excruciating delirium. Was it because he had to fight for hours after contracting it? Was it because his wounds were treated on a filthy, bloody stone floor next to several other dying men? Who knows?

Image

Mathieu flies into a murderous rage and is arrested by Manny. A wound on Kala's right arm got infected so we had no choice but to hack it off. We're rapidly running out of limbs here.

Image

Lord Stack himself goes berserk and attacks Mathieu. It's an endless cycle of hate. Everybody gets sliced up before they get separated.

Image

Lemon dies in her sleep from a combination of severe beatings and mental exhaustion brought on by the psy storm.

Image

The worst possible thing happens. Another raid. There are only 11 foes this time, and they're not nearly as well armored as the last bunch, but we barely have anyone capable of standing.

Image

Image

Wolfie is pincushioned by bolts that destroy a lung and shatter her jaw. Mathieu is wounded and crawls to safety inside the smithy.

Image

The attack is thwarted at the cost of several tortoises. We sustain even more injuries and more people are sent to recover.

Image

Kala throws his weapon and armor into the river and abandons us to run wild like an animal. Good luck, Kala.

Image

We're basically at the end of our rope. If only we had more skilled surgeons. If only we had more cooks, and more hunters. If only we had more people working the fields. If only, if only, if only...

Image

Vergil goes on a tortoise killing spree. He's cutting them down left and right.

Image

Mathieu bleeds out in the bed he managed to crawl to earlier.

Image

Lathandra wakes up from her coma and immediately starts eating Lemon's corpse.

Image

She then pulls a knife on William in his sleep.

Image

Vergil is too late to rescue William, but he kills Lathandra on the spot.

Image

The prisoners were released a while ago. We can't even care for ourselves. One collapses before she can leave the area and doesn't get up again.

Image

A wild horse goes mad and beats the shit out of Camille. Christians refuse to kill it because they venerate horses now, so Skull Smasher does his thing.

Image

We're pretty much just circling the drain here so I'm going to go ahead and call it. Rocks fall, everybody dies.

So what's the takeaway for a future playthrough?
Need better defensive positions?
More armor faster?

Diggy diggy hole makes a fantastic defensive position. especially if you make firetrap rooms with secret tunnels to block the doors behind invaders.

If I had refused the psychic suppression quest our men wouldn't have been gimped for a full season and could have hunted more.
If I had forced more armor production we would have had far fewer injuries and wouldn't have spiraled from having so many wounded to care for.
If we had like one more guy good at planting we could have had a decent stockpile of food.

Such is life.

The turtle and the kobold both said to build a fortress, but their words went unheeded. With nothing standing between us and the hammers, arrows, teeth, and other various sharp implements of death besides a few doors and walls of the local house of worship it's no wonder everyone ended up being beaten down.

It also didn't help that everyone was a major pussy and started freaking the hell out at unimportant things like no food, pain, death.
