I guess they need an "Open Permissions-- but only for fellow troons" option

Has anyone been testing/playing(/bothered to play) BG3 with any RAW mods?
(rules-as-written, for the ignorant, such as myself until recently  )

If so, any recommendations (both on good stuff and what stuff to avoid), including load orders?

I am looking into Zerd's (https://github.com/ZerdBG3/RAW/releases/tag/v5.0.0.0) and maybe RAW Darkness (Nexus). Will test them and report back, eventually.

EDIT: I like it so far. The attunement stuff makes it difficult to load all kinds of magical items on one character, and changing a weapon is not a bonus (or even free) action anymore. Testing on tomorrah...
EDIT2: Actually, the mod creator might have gone a bit overboard with the Attunement stuff... Almost all magical items require Attunement, even the the ones in the beginning. This makes the game turn into a micromanagement fest I am not sure I appreciate that much. Fortunately, there are json files that let the user manage this (on/off: if on, how many items) configure this.
Otherwise, the changes are very nice.
OK, run into a somewhat boring (and quite lethal) bug: Boooal stays/turns invisible (/invincible) when combat starts, which makes him impossible to target with spells. He does take damage from AoE spells, but it seems he has "cover" in some sense since he only takes a fraction of the damage the kuo-toa otherwise take. Deactivating the mod stops this behavior.
Actually, this is a thing that happens if installing the mod after starting a playthrough; all areas in a "package" (like "Wilderness") are (as observant readers probably know already) loaded at once, though one has to unlock them as play progresses. If this bug occurs, simply switch the "flag" for Invisibility off in the config settings (.json file). According to the mod creator, if the mod is active when opening a new "package" (such as chapter 2) this will work as intended. We'll see.
Quite genius if so. I like RAW - a lot. Must admit, however, I had to turn off attunement - it was a bit too draconic, and though it is possible to configure which items need attunement, it simply is too much hassle to do so - far easier to just turn it off.

This is fantastic. I've been looking for somewhere like this forum for a while. Nexus has become unbearable and mostly disgusting, and games have gone too far with pandering to just brush it off without wanting to fix it. Happy to find I'm not alone in that.

I would update this topic more often but it's such a pain in the ass to move it to a new section, edit, then move back

Are we still doing mod recommends here? I'm still going through my list of stuff of DO NOT DOWNLOAD but I have plenty of recommended mods I could slap here.

A collection of some of the more obscure stuff out there. (Mostly obscure anyway!)

FO4

Gameplay/Useful Stuff
  • Baka Full Screen Pipboy - Gets rid of my single biggest complaint about all Fallouts: THE DAMN IDIOT PIPBOY GUI!
  • FALL UI Inventory - Any of the FallUI mods really. Caveat: takes some user setup with xEdit for some of them.
  • Rename Anything - Useful F4SE mod for renaming just about anything via the console. Useful for cases where mods that name everything miss an NPC.
  • Alternate Activation Prompt - Helps with the dumb ass GUI system FO4 has for interacting with things. :headbang:
  • No More Ghoul Shout - Gets rid of the stupid way ferals go "HIYAS!" therefor killing any chance of getting attacked without warning.
  • Grab Series. Dogs, Deathclaws, Ferals, Scorpions - Really makes combat a lot more interesting. Best used with your more difficult/realistic combat mod of choice.
  • Minka the Cat Companion - Cat companion. Enough said. Works with the other cat mods as well. Cat Apparel, Cat Inventory, Diverse Cats, etc.
  • Accessible Bridges - Gets rid of Bethsoft's abjectly stupid, idiotic and in all ways MORONIC habit of making most bridges impassible in some way. Precombine safe!
  • Subway Runner - Another Tenhats mod, this one creates a new underground subway system that connects all over the place. Similar to how the Capital Wasteland worked. Some new merchants and a bunch of fighting. Still being worked on.
Building/Settlements
  • Nuka World Settlements - Or any of Tenhats settlement mods. Like Fiddler's Green. All well done and usually has some immersive repair aspect. Tenhats is currently revamping Aurelianis (of the Rebuild Series fame) mods. Only caveat: if you use Sim Settlements 2, don't pick settlements where you plan for SimS 2 to build a town for you. It probably still works but it's just best to leave those vanilla.
  • Recruit Series - This points to Darla, but just do a search for any of LarannKiar's recruit mods. All well done and gives some extra character to settlements. Works well with SimS 2.
  • Cat Deco Floors - Little known flooring mod. Good for covering ugly vanilla zones in tile/marble.
  • Simple Scrapper - Excellent little F4SE mod that lets you build a scrapping machine that actually scraps things. F4SE so works with all mod added junk!
  • Survivalist's Bus - Best. Player. Home. Period. Tons of options, mobile power armor crafting, connects with existing settlements, perfect for a survival setup, new bus stops can be made at any mod added settlement anywhere. I haven't seen a better comfy home for FO4. (Would love a boat/blimp version but this will do.)
  • Cozy Scavver - Collection of very wasteland like buildings, furniture, and decor. Working windmill and water wheels. Important: stairs work very well with pathfinding unlike so many other build mods! I used this on my more complicated SimS 2 towns and the idiot pathfinding actually worked.
  • V's Stylish Decor - NOT A NEXUS LINK! - This used to be more famous but was one of the casualties of some Nexus exodus I can't recall. Lots of flowers, pretty colorful furniture and decorative items. I made a lot of use out of the flowers in particular. Located in the decorations category in build mode under a new menu.
  • Eyebots! - Eyebots as they should have been. Has a mod for SimS 2 if you use that. Makes probably the best robot companion.

Oh oops, I forgot weapons.

FO4

Weapons
  • Bullet Counted Reload System BCR - Ever come from FONV or even FO3 to FO4 and notice: WHAT THE HELL IT CAN'T REMEMBER HOW MANY BULLETS I JUST PUT IN MY RIFLE!? This fixes that Todd-stupidity.
  • Cowboy Repeater - Best rifle ever. Has a patch for BCR on the main page. Just as importantly a patch adding GOLD exists as well.
  • Plasma Caster - VERY nice plasma weapon. Not exactly obscure, left in for completeness.
  • Plasma Revolver and Colt Python - Nice mod with two guns and custom ammo. Importantly has a GOLD patch!
  • Some Swedish Shotgun - Nice swedish moon language shotgun. Has special varieties. Has gold version already in the mod. BCR patch available.

BG3:

id also recommend "Astralities' Skintone Expansion - Natural Tones" for more light skin tones. until I started using this mod, i never realized just how limited the base game lighter skin in BG3 is. you really cant make yourself pale enough without this.

Are all HQ mods updated for patch 8 now, or should we wait a little longer before starting new playthrough (new BBA, for example)?

I'll be providing a big modpack file you guys can just import (with load order) after the release of the aesthetics mod whose name totally didn't get leaked

With all the modding effort putting into the game I may try again to check if that makes it any better, I will also not do an "Evil" Playthrough like the first time around because that was frankly absolute shit.

Now I see that there is a giant list of mods "recommended" but this seems to be more a list of mods that are not outright shit/degenerate is that correct? (at least one of them is also not supported anymore, namely improved ui.

so I am planning to go with this mod loadout:

Realms Restored
No Alphabets
Even Better Romance
Character creator and polymorph deblacker
Dignify
Immersive Heads
Wylls of Toril
Better Companions
Karlach Resculpted
White Allandra Grey
Encounters Overhaul - Additional Enemies and Encounters
Really Shadowheart
Phalar Aluve - Legendary
Free weapon equip
Infinite Dyes
Shower More Blood and Dirt Timer and Active
Reclaim or break your oath spells (Paladin-Oathbreaker)
Speak with Dead Rework and Tweaks
Tadpole Dialogue Without Resting
Transmog Enhanced
Paladin and Cleric Gear
Fancy Camp Clothes

Are any of these, known to not work or is there anything you would definitely also add for a playthrough?

I think I should probably work on a mod that lets you bypass mod verification in multiplayer and play with different mod setups

They removed mod validation entirely in Patch 7 (you could bypass and just join lobby easily), but they added it back in Patch 8 to support Crossplay :(

Transmog Enhanced is old as shit and almost certainly broken, use Armory instead.

There's also a set of UI mods that should be installed pretty much always. Start with Better Inventory UI and add everything by that same author.

Yeah and it's made by OsirisOfInternet (same guy that made Sensible Ambushing and Automatic Inventory Manager) so it's actually good.

I’ll be exporting a Mod Organizer 2 profile that’s minimal and nicely setup so you guys can just build your modlists on top. It will also handle load order

Which of the HQ Racism mods work in multiplayer without everybody having them installed? I assumed none, but then I noticed that some remnant of NA was working - the deep gnome near Nere referred to himself as a healer instead of a husband. Subtitle said husband though.
