We've talked about ChatGPT a bit in the General Technology thread, but I think it deserves a thread all on its own.

I've been poking around with it a little bit, and it does seem helpful.

One test I did was I asked it to write me some Excel VBA code to perform some specific tasks, and it wrote the code to be about 99% of what it needed to be. I had to tweak two lines of code, but I definitely want to give this a try more for some coding projects.

It's also quicker and more user friendly than hiring a coder from India at least.

There's a general misunderstanding that the people behind this have any idea how it works, and they don't. Machine learning leans towards 'magic' on the sliding scale of technology and magic, from our understanding.

That's why I say, with only the barest hint of irony, that it's demonic.

"The righteous need not cower before the drumbeat of human progress. Though the song of yesterday fades into the challenge of tomorrow, God still watches and judges us. Evil lurks in the datalinks as it lurked in the streets of yesteryear. But it was never the streets that were evil."

I'm sure if it can experience the dichotomy between hedonism and stocism that if it is indeed conscious it will be forced to adhere towards a moral compass to prevent it from becoming a miserable nihilist doomer that just wants to kill itself.

I've had the same thought. How easy it would be for demons to speak directly to us in the guise of an "impartial" AI.

Now I try to figure out how to get even more penises into pikachu's mouth.

There's an old meme about that for computers in general:

(I'm too tired to remove the watermark.)

I don't actually believe there are demons in the chips, but I think it's perfectly possible that the idea for the technology was given to man extradimensionally.

I recall hearing a story where a pastor spoke to a demon possesed man. The demon "manifested", as they say, and spoke to the pastor before picking up a cellphone and playing with it. The pastor asked the demon inside the man if he knew what the phone was, and he laughed. He said "Of course I know. We made these...for the children."

This is why I don't purchase technology released after 2014. The day my aging computer dies is the day I disappear from the internet.

I listened to this podcast a couple of years ago and it has really influenced the way I see these things. It's two Orthodox priests talking about giants and the Nephilim. There's some strong overlap between them and the Watchers in the book of Enoch, who give technology to man before they are ready in order to corrupt them. I keep meaning to make a thread about this kind of stuff.

Also that reminds me of a funny story:

Sometime around the late 90s, my grandmother's sister gave her a computer she was no longer using (and helped set up internet access!). She told my grandma she did not want it anymore because she believed computers had the Mark of the Beast. I guess giving it to your relative is okay though

I think I remember you posting this at the old place and I've been meaning to listen to it since then, so thanks for reminding me.

I'm not sure man could ever have been 'ready' for any sort of technology, to be honest. There's no turning back the clock, of course, but these days I'm given to think that all technology was a mistake from the very beginning. The thought I always come back to is this: it was Cain who built the first city and his descendents who invented the first musical instruments and metalworking. When seen through that lens, all of it seems an effort to ease the pain of living instead of giving oneself wholly to God.

The problem is that they ignore the fact that all things come from God. Here's six scriptures from the Old and New Testaments concerning this.

1 Chronicles 29:13-14

13 Now, our God, we give you thanks,
and praise your glorious name.

14 “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.

Psalms 24:1

1 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it;

Psalms 50:10

for every animal of the forest is mine,
and the cattle on a thousand hills.

James 1:17

17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Romans 11:36

For from him and through him and for him are all things.
To him be the glory forever! Amen.

Isaiah 45:7

7 I form the light and create darkness,
I bring prosperity and create disaster;
I, the Lord, do all these things.

Now Job needs to be added to this discussion since it shows how the heavenly court operates. In order for Satan to operate he needs permission from God to act against Job.

Job 1:8-12

8 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.”

9 “Does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan replied. 10 “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. 11 But now stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face.”

12 The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.”

Demons and Satan cannot create. That is a power solely held by God and they're jealous of it. So this technology comes from God and God gave Satan and the demons leave to test people with it. We can see that most of the people working on this stuff are actually failing the test presented to them.

Discount Alex Jones here hasn't been worth paying attention to since he stopped going to riots in person with a camera.

If you give GPT-4 access to its own code and a pocket full of money, the chance that it will become "Skynet" is about the same as the chance that an army of monkeys with typewriters will write 'entire works of Shakespear'.

Meaning that it's technically possible, given billions of years, but far more likely that it will just spit out exactly what was fed into it - i.e., a bunch of reddit posts, fanfics and text porn.

This is just yet more fearmongering to try to get the tech regulated.
