Nintendo owned the license and allowed them to be created. Ipso facto, a Nintendo game.

The gameplay seems interesting, but it speaks to the Zelda team's bizarre new philosophy to always subvert expectations no matter what. It's almost as if they are TERRIFIED of just making another, traditional Zelda game. Many expected remakes of the Oracle games after Link's Awakening, I did especially when the trailer first started and you witness a scene similar to the final boss fight with Ganon (if you linked both games anyway). But even that was subverted, and after 5+ years it turns out to be an asset flip with completely new gameplay.

Not saying it won't be fun, I will give it a shot perhaps, but this looks like something that should've released two years ago. It looks like DLC for the Link's Awakening remake. To say nothing of making Zelda the protagonist. At least they knew well enough to not give her a sword, but it shows that even Nintendo is dipping their toes into DEI territory. They're doing JUST enough not to **** off longtime customers, but enough to signal to the Death Cult that they are on the same page. That they aren't a threat anymore. Nintendo's fans won't care one bit either way, because they worship the brand itself. They could've given Zelda a sword and a more masculine appearance, and it wouldn't have mattered. They will find ways to justify any decision made by this company, in a manner that they would never do for any other company.

To be completely fair to Nintendo, I am not sure that it's so much that they want to be woke, as that, with how few Japanese are left these days, they feel they desperately need to do what they've been told western audiences want.

Wish I could find that old newspaper from the early 1900s that called the Japanese "Not yellow, but not quite White enough" or something like that.

I think we’re forgetting just how long this franchise has been going, with each entry having some radical change or at least experimental gimmick. It’s not surprising that they’d try Zelda as protagonist again eventually.

The toon (not *****) style and use of magic also makes me think this isn’t something egregiously woke, not that it might still find its way in. Zelda has always been shown or at least implied to have great magical power considering she holds a piece of the triforce.

All in all, not something to get upset over.
