No RPG elements? It probably goes here!

Ignored this thread because I thought it was a sequel to Outward, but it actually looks cool.

EDIT: I am now aware that the main character is a race mixer and retract this statement

Yea, it's effects. They've tied a bunch of stuff to that knob.
For fuck's sake. What madman has a single knob for simultaneously adjusting multiple settings in the settings submenu?

And if your game takes a long time to startup, add this to the Engine.ini:

Code: Select all

[OnlineSubsystemSteam]
bEnabled=False
What the hell is this for, anyway?

I like how much areas change as you do quests. Finished collecting the asciar queens for the one town and now there's a bunch of nests in the town full of larvae.

If a world dialogue gets interrupted by combat or something, it restarts where the dialogue left off. Only other game I've seen do this is Outerworlds, it's a nice feature.

Used for connecting achievements to steam but I'm playing the GOG version so it spends 30 seconds trying to connect to Steam when booted up.

Anyone else noticed how insanely woke this game is?

First thing that happens is the human character instantly sides with the nigger aliens instead of his OWN FUCKING SPECIES.

the game is fun but that's the only 'woke' thing I've seen so far

Oh, I noticed that on the very first flashback. You can tell she's a nog, or bi-racial, just from the silhouette of her hair in the first flashback.

Framing human expansion as evil and the nigger alien "natives" as oppressed is giga-woke. Also all of the cartoonishly evil human characters are white.

The game has the protagonist *immediately* side with the nigger aliens, even saying "I'm on the wrong side". Absolutely disgusting.

I'd ally with the insects from starship troopers against microsoft or amazon

credits are STILL going btw
this is a AA game that probably had 10 core developers

games include absolutely everyone tangentially related to it in the credits now

Did you find any woke things in this? It does sound interesting, but the above posts make me guarded to try it. (Thank you for posting this by the way!)

main character's daughter is multiracial, apparently the mother was a major character in the first game(?)

the aliens have a nominally feminist society, but in reality men are doing all the work so I'm not sure what the messaging there is
at first the story seemed like avatar but it's not. The aliens are just as ruthless and cruel as the worst of humanity, so again, not sure what the messaging there is

I don't think there's much of an intentional 'woke' message here.

as for technical:
Performance ranges from meh to bad.
Only encountered 1 bug that prevented a quest from completing, and it was an optional post-quest followup thing.
Crashed a couple times.
Cutscenes are locked to 30FPS for some reason but it's not a good one as if you install something that enables unreal's console you can disable this and they work fine
Small portion of enemies(definitely <1%) spawned inside of geometry or got stuck in geometry. Never was a serious issue, and never prevented me from killing them.
The controls are designed for a controller. This is most obvious with one button doing a lot of actions which will frequently cause you to accidentally swap your weapon, but also makes using consumables difficult.

Not the best release from a technical standpoint, but it's probably far above the average now tbh.

using consumables is mapped to a different button than swapping weapons. using a consumable is up on the d-pad, and swapping weapons is the Y button. The only button which does double-duty is the jump button which you hold down to boost-jump, which feels obvious and natural.
