Mechwarrior 5: Clans

How is it too late when the newest DLC for MW5 is less than three months old?
Lack of imagination.
Aliens are great. Every setting needs some gross creatures for humanity to destroy.

Yeah man, you always have pretty solid tastes, so give us your 2 cents. I'd be interested to read your thoughts on it.
I loved the arena missions in MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries!
They brought back the guy that did the commentary during the matches to reprise his role as Duncan Fisher.

Too bad it's only half a game.gerey wrote: ↑ March 15th, 2024, 06:34Also, MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries is great and abandonware. For anyone that wants to scratch the mech itch, there's few better games out there.

Doubtful, since I think this one was developed with UE5, and Mercenaries is UE4.Boontaker wrote: ↑ September 25th, 2024, 03:24So its not an expansion anymore? Will it have any cross content with MW5?
Some tech wizard may know better, but as far as I've read it's not so complicated to port UE4 assets into UE5. If they use that as a ******** excuse then they'll pretty much leave Mercs behind after all these years of trying to make it work via mods.Cipher wrote: ↑ September 25th, 2024, 03:43Doubtful, since I think this one was developed with UE5, and Mercenaries is UE4.Boontaker wrote: ↑ September 25th, 2024, 03:24So its not an expansion anymore? This is supposed to be a story driven campaign with, so far, no sandbox elements.
It never was an expansionBoontaker wrote: ↑ September 25th, 2024, 03:24So its not an expansion anymore? Will it have any cross content with MW5?
I don't think that's what's going to happen. We already have a YAML mod that puts a clan invasion into the game that starts in the lore accurate time frame. For now, the Clan is just a single faction but you see the respective clans as subfactions on missions and they use clan mechs with clan tech.Kronus wrote: ↑ September 25th, 2024, 04:05Some tech wizard may know better, but as far as I've read it's not so complicated to port UE4 assets into UE5. It is kind of not too awesome to leave the abandoned-at-release MW5 crowd expecting a Clans DLC to be told they have to drop 60 greenies for a sequel no one actually needs with the excuse of having a now functional MW5.
Not everything's bleak though, as modders may yet save the day by either reimporting Clans assets into Mercs or the other way around if Piranha doesn't pull their head outta their ***.
Ill try those out. The mechwarrior 2 computer voice mod, the coyote and some other mission packs and the MW2 fonts are the only things that motivated me to play it after all this time. Maybe hell can freeze over before I pay for the same game twice.Cipher wrote: ↑ September 25th, 2024, 23:54I don't think that's what's going to happen. What I mean is, we already basically have a lot of Clan tech in Mercenaries and after a few more years, that mod will basically add the entire clan invasion. I would assume that is easier than porting the entire career sandbox mode from Mercenaries into UE5. Admittedly, I don't know, but from what I heard modding Unreal is a pain in the *** so unless PBG gives Clans modding tools like they did for Mercenaries I am not seeing that happening.
Additionally, Mercenaries already has a LOT of content to enhance the sandbox and it doesn't seem to be stopping. In fact, I think after playing Clans, the modder's will to improve the sandbox of Mercenaries will be reignited.
From the trailer, the mech's movement seems a little too fast and lacks stompyness. I hope its just trailer/pre-release built jank and they didn't just made it an FPS with mech skins instead of the more sim-like feeling of Mercenaries.
