I have a feeling Bethesda Game Studios will eventually close, this game and it's reception proved to me that there is very little real talent left in the company, and I struggle to think of a way they can possibly salvage their reputation and create a competent game afterwards. Elder Scrolls VI will continue to use the same engine and will build off of what was used in Starfield, which means more bloat and more of the same gameplay. Supposedly Todd went on record to say that Elder Scrolls VI will strive to be the ultimate fantasy world simulator, but on technology that dates back to the late 90s, can it even be remotely possible?. You would need to be at Rockstar's level to even attempt such a feat, and to do so on a Frankenstein engine that can barely run a rudimentary room/cell?. Forget about it.

Microsoft would do better to dissolve the company and just keep the IP. Give it to modern Obsidian which we can at least say makes more competent games than Bethesda, despite being equally taken over. You can even shift Todd Howard there as well.
The engine is not and has never been the problem. Modders without access to the engine have made workarounds that solve all the complaints people commonly level at the engine.

The problem is that the company is your typical western corporation that is just a daycare for mentally ill men and women. There is no overarching artistic vision or really any cohesion at all in beth games anymore and they are progressively more a combination of broken and unfinished mechanics scotch taped together in an incoherent nightmare.

Their titles all come with a lack of overarching tone and bizarre design choices. They decided halfway through fallout 4 to try and turn it into a building and survival game and failed miserably. They were going for a space sim for starfield but failed miserably and tried to salvage it into one of their standard games and failed even at that.

Bethesda didn’t fail to make a functional stealth system in their game because of the engine. They have done this before in older implementations. They didn’t fail to make space combat enjoyable or travel a fun aspect of the game because of the engine. They implemented the mechanics of space combat and flying and they function fine.

They failed to balance or test all these things and the game is the equivalent of an esl wordvomit post. Every mechanic in the game is at best half-baked, though many simply do not function. There’s clearly no leadership tying things together or making all the systems fit into the overall balance and feel of the game. It’s obvious most of their focus went into the esg girlboss and new niggalanta propaganda. It’s no surprise that weak men who submit to these humiliation rituals cannot even produce a single functioning aspect of their game.
True but their refusal to upgrade elements of the engine resulted in technical limitations that really have no place in modern titles. The separated cells by loading screen etc.

Did you actually read the post you're responding to? Just curious.
Having areas separated by loading screens is not a unique function of gamebryo btw.

Yes and I disagree with the idea that the engine is not part of the problem. CE is a problem, insofar as Bethesda's refusal to resolve issues that have hounded it since Oblivion.

The loading screen stuff could've been avoided but they didn't put the resource in to resolve it prior to dev.

Modders have not been able to make workarounds for many huge issues with CE. Yes we've resolved many, but there's loads that cannot be circumnavigated and Bethesda refuses to resolve

They've accumulated a massive tech debt, much like CA did with their engine, and there's no easy solutions in sight.

I still think their mistake was starting working on Starfield at all. It's an impossible game to make, doubly so for a company with no experience with space sims. Maybe in a decade, once LLMs have matured enough to create new quests that have something resembling a cohesive narrative to them, and can take into account the worldstate and what the player has done before, what they were trying to accomplish with the game could have been possible.

Then again, when one compares Morrowind to modern Bethesda slop, it's shocking to see just how incompetent they've become. Morrowind had cca. 50 developers, yet the base game features over 300 quests - major, minor, factional et al. Starfield had cca. 1100 people working on it, yet it features less than 50 quests total. I think the issues with Bethesda go far beyond engine issues, tech debt, inexperience with the genre or impossible ambitions.

definitely not if there is one thing modders cant fix its the writing, there is a reason why there isnt a single mod which unshits skyrim's bards college, companions and basically every guild questline...99% of modders cant write better than chatgpt, lets be honest lol

Writing is pretty easy as long as an egotistical retard isn't dictating it. Serana Dialogue Add-On for Skyrim has better writing and VA work than vanilla beth games despite being a cringe romance adjacent mod

its not hard to have "better" writing over something which basically doesnt exist, beside dawnguard main questline serana has like two lines lol and even you yourself said that its "cringe romance" mod and yet its still popular cause as you can guess no one was able to make something better which tells you all you need to know when even the most modded game ever doesnt have many if any good mods with dialogues, story etc

It's not actually cringe I just said that to cover my ass. It's pretty good and covers almost every aspect of the game, as well as player decisions in build and race. There are also several ai gen voiced addonns I use which are in many ways just as good or better than the original writing for the same characters. It just depends on the mod author.

Unfortunately Bethesda sucks at even pretending they care.

Cyberpunk did the "we are the good guys now" schtick by publishing entire novels of patch notes.. Did it fix the core issue of the game? No.. but they did duck tape the ugly piece of shit together so it can run at least.

Bethesda can't even do that.. their patch notes are basically like

- Added a digipick to a cupboard
- turned up the gamma a little.

guard dialogue overhaul is pretty small mod which is basically made of vanilla lines being clipped/merged, to fix starfield trash you would have to write as much content as for example act 2 of baldurs gate 3 has

"And what do you mean it's hard to have better writing over something that doesn't exist? What does that even mean?"
i said its not hard to write serana dialogues and make them look semi decent compared to vanilla when vanilla itself doesnt have them basically, what does serana say outside dawnguard questline lol?two lines about weather or some shit, so yeah even her bragging about wine is better than nothing

It's a fucking video game, not Harry Potter retard. Not everything needs to be Game of Thrones dialogue to be good writing (and usually that's terrible anyways). Adding walls of text to Starfield isn't going to fix it, but regardless modders can do fine writing compared to Bethesda slop. The random coders and freelancers that write these mods are infinitely better than the DEI hires at bethshit or retards like Emil. What is harder to fix is the mind-numbing gameplay, unimproved game engine, and bland and uninspired aesthetic intricate to Starslop.

Hate to keep talking about Serana but she had the most dialogue in Vanilla Skyrim so you are just outright wrong, and wtf do you think vampires are? Your description is wrong, but either way, should she be a strong independent woman instead? And the guard mod uses zero vanilla lines, the video even explains the software he uses (a customized profile for tortoise tts) which you would understand if you weren't a mouthbreather.

Maybe you should go play the last of us troonslop if you care that much about "not eating trash"

Point is, both Hello Games and CDPR have shown everyone else in the industry how to do a "redemption" story. If there was anyone at Bethesda with a brain they'd be devoting all their energy and manpower into researching what both companies did and trying to emulate it as much as possible.
