Project Quarm

Post by GhostCow »

Some devs have put together a new Everquest emulator server called Project Quarm. It's similar to Project 1999 in that they want to start at classic and progress through a few expansions, but this one will be stopping at PoP rather than Luclin. I'm Probably going to play at least up until Luclin releases. Maybe longer. There is supposed to be 9 months between each expansion release. Any HQ bros want to play? @rusty_shackleford, @Kalarion, @Tweed, @WhiteShark, @Gregz

Tempting.

Any reason to assume multiboxing won't be the norm?

I'd really like to get LDoN, but this is fine. I'm in. Either Monk, pally or SK, not sure which yet.

It's not allowed here. If it's like P99 then you can't even connect with multiple accounts from the same IP to begin with.

When does this start?

Can someone wrap up an EQ+server folder and host it on the Vault?

Enchanter, Cleric, Mage, Necromancer, or Shaman is my current short list.

It started earlier this month. About a week or two I think. There are links to all the files you need in the reddit guide I added to the OP. It's meant to be followed along with that video.

I'm going to make an enchanter, bard, and shaman. I'll stick with whichever one meshes with the characters that other HQers make.

Yes, you should absolutely play with us. I made a bard and Kalarion made a shadow knight. We got up to level 2 before I logged for the night. We are in Qeynos. I will probably be available to play regularly from 5:30pm-10pm central time most weekdays and all day and night on weekends, save for a few hours to spend with irl friends.

I think the key reasons are, its a "fresh" progression server with a private dev team. Has restricted gameplay rules so the economy hasn't been ruined by RMT/multiboxing/bots. Plus it now has 3 HQ members on it so its 3000% better than other server options

edit: Also player count currently sitting at 970 which for 1 AM CST isn't bad for a game this old, no idea what "official" servers look like

It was around 1800 people last night. I hear peak is around 3k

Because they use a newer client and don't put much effort into making the game like classic. It's some bastardized version that isn't at all like classic. This particular server is using an even older client than Project 1999.

yea, a significantly better one

also apparently the server is heavily customized based on discord tranny polls including things like removing class XP penalties. Hope you enjoy your classic experience.

You need to use an older client because having a mismatch between the client and server causes all kinds of oddities, like song gems locking up when trying to twist as a bard on p99, spell gems locking up when the server side cast time is different from what the client expects, and hp displaying incorrectly as it regenerates.

Class xp penalties was a trash decision that doesn't need to come back just until they get to velious just because that's how it was on classic. This is supposed to be classic with some qol improvements. Not a 1:1 recreation, warts and all.

It's still far more classic than a progression server, which is just modern eq with no changes other than content being gated off.

Yes, this isn't a care bear version of eq. No xp loss until level 10 though.

My main that I will be using exclusively for playing with HQ Bros is named Randall. I'll probably be using irc to coordinate grouping.
