Adventurer's Guild Games Suggestions & Upcoming
We should clarify that any game that requires more than a brain stem to get running is off the books.
If it doesn't need to be an RPG I will add Star Trek Infinite. It's a new 4X game, but obscure enough that I didn't hear about it until after release.

I think it should stay RPG.J1M wrote: ↑ October 15th, 2023, 22:24If it doesn't need to be an RPG I will add Star Trek Infinite. It's a new 4X game, but obscure enough that I didn't hear about it until after release.
Considering adding the early 90s shareware RPG The Aethra Chronicles, Volume One: Celystra's Bane to the AG list. Thoughts?

Oh! If we want super-obscure 90-00s RPGs, what about Terra Aegrus?

I think we should probably limit it to games that at least 2-3 people express support for playing.
What is considered "expressing support"?rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ October 17th, 2023, 12:48I think we should probably limit it to games that at least 2-3 people express support for playing.
Would be good to have the list continuously updated in the OP.

Well, a couple people said they wanted to play Starwind so I added it.

Just add the games fulfilling the criteria in the OP suggested by posters who are genuinely interested in actively participating. There should be enough common ground that having to explicitly expressing support shouldn't be necessary.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ October 19th, 2023, 09:57Well, a couple people said they wanted to play Starwind so I added it.
Doesn't mean one isn't allowed to contest a game due to x/y/z but I imagine this will be the exception rather than the norm.
Starwind and Legends of Amberland get my vote, in that order.

@Acrux is Ambermoon.NET suitable for playing through entirely? Is it wise to skip the first game in the series?
Yes, Ambermoon.NET is finished and completely playable. I don't remember any significant bugs when I played it back around Feb or March.
By "is it wise" do you mean does the story make sense without having played Amberstar? If so, then yes. Grandpa explains what you need to know in his opening dialogue. There are references to Amberstar, Lionheart, and Dragnflight, but they are easter eggs.
Ambermoon Advanced is not yet complete in terms of the modules he's planning to add. Aside from the story part, though, it does add some mechanics changes like elemental damage and some enemies bring immune to certain damage types.

Ambermoon looks interesting, how long did it take you to beat it @Acrux?
► A few screenshots I found
I'm really bad about tracking time because I don't usually have a long block of time to play. I'd guess around 25-30 hours without trying to complete every quest.

► Nevermind about the Shadowrun trilogy. It looks like there are too many game breaking bugs...

Another older game that could be good fit for the Adventurer's Guild is Spiderweb Software's Exile III: Ruined World.
Of the trilogy it appears to be widely regarded as the best of the three and I don't think you need to have played the first two to get into the third.
The game was intended to run on Windows 3.1 so unfortunately it won't work out of the box on newer windows operating systems. However, Wine or this preconfigured DOSBox compilation should allow modern computers to run it without a problem.
I played the shareware version when it came out and I remember it being pretty good. If you are more familiar with the remake Avernum 3: Ruined World I've been told the big differences are that the original Exile III had a larger party (6 characters instead of 4) and also more spells. If I remember correctly Avernum also added a skill tree that you could level into for each character which wasn't present in Exile and I've read that some of the encounters scale to your level in Avernum where as they do not in Exile.
The fully registered version is now freeware and readily available from the official Spiderweb Software site:

@Tweed Sounds good to me, seeing the start of the Ultima series could be fun.

I'm OK with Exile III considering I have played the first and second installment earlier this year. Like with Realms of Antiquity I'd suggest it be a 2-month edition as it's a long game.

Oh I was only suppose to suggest one, my bad.
Prophecy of the Shadow hit GoG recently for paypiggies who paypig.

I've played Starwind. It's pretty fun if a little esoteric.
It's the last day of the last week of the first month, better get rolling.
