From what I gather this isn't a new campaign, it's content added to the middle of a game I already finished. So my choices are: load up a save of my indestructible killing machine to see the cutscenes, start a new character and waste hours reaching the thing purchased, or skip it.

This takes place after VOODOO BOIZ quest. So essentially at the end of the game.
If you load a save before the "Point of no Return" part of the story you are at the appropriate spot to do this DLC.

Bit of a weird decision given that they went into this DLC knowing it was their last one.. why not extend the game / make the base campaign good.

I'm not sure if they can be killed in the story.. but you can't walk up and shoot any of the main NPC's.

It's part of their brand, and all the lies and false advertising they got into before the launch of 2077 cost them that reputation. The disastrous release of 2077 was likely the biggest fuckup of the past ten years, especially since it was hyped to high heaven.

Not that I think CDPR will do much better going forward. The Californian expats have crawled their way into the company, most of the Polish talent has fled, they've opened a new studio in the US, which means more Western dangerhairs. I fully expect Witcher 4 to offer the option of playing as a female protagonist, to offer the choice of pronouns and to feature as many swarthoids as they can cram into the game.

<aweigh> they completely removed the tedious loot/upgrade treadmill, instead now you can ONLY upgrade iconic/uniques
<aweigh> regular weapons cannot be upgraded anymore, so there's no longer any reason to tediously loot everything to craft/upgrade your junk
<aweigh> instead you're incentivized to find uniques (or find their crafting schematic) and upgrade those

<aweigh> i also like how they streamlined the perk systems, now everything is spread out between the different attributes in a much better way. no longer are body and reflexes the only things worth putting points in
<aweigh> the perks are also gated behind amount of attribute points, so you're incentivized to specialize

<aweigh> also, they turned your grenades and healing items into a cooldown-consumable; instead of carrying around 150 MaxDocs, you instead have 1 MaxDoc which you upgrade via perks or cyberware, increasing amount it heals, its cooldown efficiency, etc. same with grenades, you slowly upgrade how many you can fire off at a time before needing to recharge, etc

<aweigh> tbh, it's way better than carrying around 200 grenades. plus it's tied to perks, plus you no longer need to tediously loot every single maxdoc you see, or every 'nade you see lying around. it does cut down on the amount of tedious looting.

also, they completely changed how you get armor and defense now. Clothing now no longer provides you the majority of your armor, instead most clothing items are cosmetic while a few have traits or bonuses associated to them, like a hat that increases stealth, or a special shirt that gives a small armor bonus.

instead, now the majority of your armor comes from your cyberware, and you can't just install the best cyberware right off the bat, now you have to put points into the associated attributes that cyberneeds AND unlock perks that let you use some of the better stuff.

They replaced it with a way better system.. now cyberware gives armor.... almost randomly.. with zero visual effect either.. and you just equip more pieces for more armor.. completely new system.. totally better. game is fixed.

((TL;DR - just run around naked and disassemble all your clothing into rare components so you can upgrade the shitty weapons they give you)

Just beat 2077 for the first time. The DLC was easily the worst part of the game by far. Mission after mission of learning the life story of girlbosses, glowie niggers, and glowie nigger girlbosses via agonizingly long Half-Life 2 cutscenes. I wanted to kill them all. Instead, my character actually fucking broke down crying when one died at the end. The final mission was literally just sitting down while a black guy told me how horrible I was and all I could do was apologize. Never did run into the troon from the OP though.
