Is Skyrim redeemable with mods?

For discussing role-playing video games, you know, the ones with combat.

I have mods to overhaul all of the cities and it's a ******* mess of compatibility patches because there's a bunch of mods that add certain things I like that I've had to forced to play nice with each other to mixed success.
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

To answer the question: No.

Skyrim has too much wrong with it at the base level to make it worth putting excessive time into it. Over the last 10 years or so, it's become pretty obvious that Skyrim's only real value is for people who are unable to play Morrowind - which is just a better game.

see kids, this is why when u pick some ***** for wife (which u shouldnt ******* do, hire surrogate to have full custody rights over child and save 500k+)
u should make sure her family is preferably dead so she does not have extra simping support beside commie state. also nobody looking for ***** when she goes missing

to answer my question,

no
Requiem is the only one I can think of that might help make it tolerable, but I never sat down and went over the game in extreme detail to mod it (tried a few times, but I get OCD and the graphics overhauls are like 200+ mods alone).

There are so many things I disliked about Skyrim's systems that I could never find anything that would appeal to me. I want Morrowind mechanics in Skyrim, but unfortunately the game seems to be incompatible with that focus and most people who put a lot of time into modding them think the dumbed down console features of Oblivion/Skyrim are "better".

Oblivion can be fixed pretty well (I still have the FCOM super mod someone packed into an easy exe years ago) to be closer to Morrowind, so that is the only one I ever really played after Morrowind.

If any new mods overhaul leveling, companion commands, loot tables, and dungeons, then maybe.

Can you make it look prettier with enhanced graphics, a new UI, and ENB made by ******** russian? Yeah. Can you turn supposed cities, which look more like small villages with walls, into actual proper cities and improve dog **** writing and quests? Hell no. If you didn't like vanilla Skyrim, you aren't going to like the modded one either.

And that's without taking into account the combat mechanics, which were laughed at even a decade ago...

I am most likely going to talk out of my ***, but if I had to guess, it’s because the map is too small and crowded. If you turned Whiterun into the size of, for example, Oblivion’s Imperial City or one of the cities in The Witcher 3, it would reach Windhelm because that’s how small the map is. Is it impossible to do that? Maybe not, but it would basically require a whole new map, which is why no one has done it after 10+ years. Also, performance inside the hypothetical extended city would most likely be atrocious, even for high-end PCs. Even Skyrim’s cities in their current state, with new graphics, suffer from poor performance. Now imagine adding thousands more references inside already struggling cells.

As for why no one has touched the main and faction quests, I have heard that bigger Skyrim quests are a mess of combined codes held together by duct tape. This is especially the case for the Civil War and main questline, which is why the 'Civil War Overhaul' mod is one of the most bugged ones ever. Voice acting for any changes in these quests is probably a problem as well and also let’s be honest there aren’t many modders who can actually write.

Closer to the truth than you realise though, once you see Bethesda games as themeparks, that actually play like WoW maps, it all makes a lot more sense.

Depends on your tastes, my modlists tend to be 100-200 strong but what i like might not be for others tastes, ex:

One thing i like to do is travel with a large party of 6-8 companions and have dungeons populated with more then x10 enemy counts.
I raise it a little in overground too (x3-x5) which when combined with other stuff like civil war means travel is usually quite lively.

Combine it with skillmods and it becomes an amusing enough action game for a bit that passes as an imitation of older crpgs.

What companions do you use? I want to travel with a party but Skyrim companions tend to get in the way more often than not. Not to mention almost all companion mods are pure ******* garbage waifubait trash.

that's why I removed cities and quests altogether using Shattered - basically turning the game into a sandbox to **** around with all those combat/animation and graphics mods.

my Skyrim is pretty much 'we have Elden Ring at home' these days.

I had no clue this existed. I've always wished the TES games got their own DUST style mods and this works out perfect for my personal (stupid) OC plot.

Two main sources: the first is through added through compilation mods like 3dnpcs (highly recommended mod all around).

The second to browse companions category on a place like nexus, check the ones i like the looks of, then check which have questlines and lots of voice acting so you have the illusion of a lively party reacting to things as you travel.

Of the ones i used in my last run that were notable: vilja (she always seems to be on my modlist even though ain't crazy about the accent nor find the character that fun or interesting BUT she reacts to everything and inserts herself well into the world), better lydia (va change is jarring at first but good trade off for being a more interesting companion) and elf princess ambriel which i found quite fun although you'll need to have high tolerance to cringe and be ok with massive lore breaking from her questline.

Rest either didn't make enough of an impression to be worth remembering or were from 3dnpcs.

If you like the gameplay loop that vanilla throws at you, then mods improve it. If you don't, it's irredeemable.

You may be shocked to learn that humanoids in TES V: Skyrim also move unrealistically for the sake of being enjoyable to control

Anyone know if there is a mod somewhere which replaces the shout words with slurs? Nexus certainly wont host that...
