Anyone want to make a little badge for those that completed Shard of Spring before I do it?

@rusty_shackleford size?
Not certain yet, going to guess something like 32x32, or maybe 24x24 if that's too big. Possibly non-square due to the nature of it.

I can't get the dosbox mapper to work for the GOG dosbox version. I change the keys, save, but it doesn't seem to actually affect the game. Any ideas?

Apparently it wasn't clear, but anyone(not just the first) who beats the game within the month gets the prestigious high quality badge that took @wndrbr days to create.

Any ideas of what to play next month? I was going to suggest Tunnels & Trolls: Crusaders of Khazan(1990).
Legends of Amberland has been suggested
https://www.gog.com/en/game/legends_of_ ... tten_crown

and i am suggesting Dragon Wars as a potential candidate.

Question is how do we determine what would be suitable? Doubt we'll be a large enough group of people to vote so random number generator or through mutual agreement?
Potentially, we could do a schedule looking something like this:
1 month 'off' which will be used for discussing which games to play for the following months (say 3-4) and which release versions so there's time to get everything set up. Have a thread dedicated for discussing future games and a new thread for each month to keep the discussion of the played games confined to their individual threads. Avoids cluttering it up more than necessary. Maybe even a dedicated subforum.

Does anyone know the best way to make VICE load everything faster off the top of their head? My play-through is fixing to die before it even begins.

I like typing out the spell name. Actually faster than mousing through a hotbar, or searching the spellbook for a two-digit code. They should have stuck with short names only though.

Or allow acronyms. It'd be better to type "COF" for "Column of Fire".

For a party I went with four fighters (2 Dwarf 2 Troll) and one Gnome mage, so far its working out pretty well against everything but encounters with large groups of high level wizards... those can be painful.

I've just finished clearing the area to the south 'Islanda' and I think all I've got left to do is figure out how to get into that area east of Athe.

One thing that I noticed is that the charts in the manual are not perfectly accurate and sometimes you will gain one more point of HP when leveling than your character's Endurance would suggest:
► For Example
► Despite this I've started dreading gain levels as...
Has anyone been using the magical items? They seem pretty cost prohibitive and each item's effects don't appear to be listed in the manual which is making me a bit hesitant to drop thousands of gold on one.

You got a storm ring from the sidequest in Islanda, and staves can drop in the Tower of Rylath. They provide spells for you (at a base level as for as I can tell) and will eventually break.

The game is so close to being fun, but in the end it's just a very frustrating experience.
I agree with @Watser's assessment, hopefully they smoothed out enough of the rough parts when creating Demon's Winter.

Tried it. Couldn't get into it at all. Hopefully next month has something a little more engaging.

As long as a couple people seem interested I'll add them.

Play Realms of Antiquity; The shattered crown. Dude made it for the TI-99 computer a couple of years ago, but it is great experience and doesn't "feel" as antiquated as some of the old greats today. The download comes built in with an emulator, so it plays by just clicking on the exe.

And you even get into the devs hall of fame if you finish it.
