Friendly reminder that USA is, in fact, already a metric system country. It uses the International System for basically everything, medicine, science, university level math (and there's plenty of measurment the Customary simply doesn't cover. Good luck using Ohms with feet, inches or dicks). NASA does everything in metric as do every tech company resident in USA. When it comes to general public, you have an additional layer that literally converts those METRIC measures into imperial, for everyday use.

As I said multiple times I can use both. Something that boggles the mind of many pnp players. Once you get accustomed to it no, no system is inherently better for everyday use. A foot isn't standard enough since all feet are different and metric has similar rules-of-thumb with a human step being one meter (or at least everyone being able to be trained into one meters step) and the length of one middle or index finger around 10 cm. Anyone that worked in masonry could give you dozens of those, without relying on the size of his nipples for measures.

The true american hero is willing to make Chinese and brown people convert their manufacturing specs from metric to imperial to save this country, thank them for their service. :salute:

Unironically yes, that's probably also outsourced, in 2024.

@Ratcatcher, can you tell me what one third of a meter is?

Yes. It's 33 cm. The fact you have no specific name for it isn't exactly a gotcha, at least in my opinion. And for 99.9% of everyday measures, you don't need the additional 0.3 periodic. We build houses in Yuro, you know, and peoples without degrees do that kind of math all the time.

Another irony to the 'education fixes it' argument is nobody is taught how to count in base 12 anymore, which is how people used to count when counting on their fingers.

Data is measured in base 2. What people often refer to as 'gigabyte', 'megabyte' etc., are actually 'gibibyte' and 'mebibyte'.
1 byte = 8 bits
1 kibibyte = 1024 bytes
1 mebibyte = 1 1024 kibibyte
1 gibibyte = 1024 mebibyte

And so forth.
Because those are useful units as computers are inherently binary, not some forced standardized units that happened to look good on paper but are actually impractical for the task being done.

You can even do base 2 multiplication/division in computers by 'moving the decimal': left shift and right shift operations. Base 10 is more difficult for a computer to perform.

Yeah. And this exact unit we can use ranging from measuring atomic to cosmic distances just by adding or removing zeros as needed. Meanwhile imperialfags need to learn 10x9¹²³ different units to measure things inbetween.

A measurement system based on human proportions is the most relevant and useful to humans.
You easily overcome that by having a semi-decent education. Then having an objective, standardized measure that can serve in any kind of environment becomes the priority.
So an intuitive, easy to understand tradition can be overcome by 12-20 years of modernist, mandatory state-funded indoctrination?
:goldfish:
The funny part about that is you have to teach the American system more, starting earlier, and people still don't know it or use it well.

Interviewer: "How many feet in a mile?"
American One: "I dunno. 16?"
American Two: "I dunno either."
Interviewer: "Okay, how about ounces in a pound?"
American One: "Uh-oh, I think there are two kinds of ounces aren't there?
Interviewer: "Oops, yeah. Sorry. Let's not get confused here. How about how many pounds in a ton?"
American One: "Oh, I know this one! 2000!"
American Two: "No, it's 2200, stupid."
Interviewer: "Shit. Actually you're somehow both right..."
American One: "Sorry, mister, I have to go. Can you tell me what time it is? I dunno how to read the round clock."

But America! Fuck yeah!
