Apparently after some butthurt falling out with Larian modders have used this as an excuse to go put their mods behind patreon. Most modders don't own this work, and you(yes, You!) should be reporting this to Larian. This goes for any paid mods of any video game, if the content they're asking money for likely isn't owned by them(unauthorized derivative work), report it to the IP owner.
If it's a BG3 mod, which seems to make up the majority of these right now, you may report it to Larian here: https://larian.com/contact#contactForm
>Why?
Because paid mods hurt everyone. If it's implicitly allowed, most mods will become paid and everyone's experience will be worse.
>Can developers actually take down paid mods?
Yes, and they've done this many times before. e.g., https://www.pcgamer.com/street-fighter- ... om-capcom/
Most game developers are happy to overlook unpaid modifications, and sometimes include creation and distribution of such in their EULA. But when you start charging, they get angry.
You can find BG3's EULA here: https://store.steampowered.com/eula/1086940_eula_0
And their fan content policy here: https://larian.com/fan-content-policy
They explicitly do not allow commercial modifications:We greatly value interaction with our community, and our team loves to discover the unique & wonderful content that you create every day, whether it’s fan art, videos, stories, screenshots, cosplays, mods, or anything else (collectively “Fan Content”).
>Why are you helping major corporations protect their IPs?It is forbidden to sell or license your Fan Content to any third parties for any type of compensation.
Don't get me wrong, I hate IP laws and believe they hinder human progress. But as long as they exist and there are ways to use them for betterment, they should be used for such. Refer to the Why? section.
>Does this include modders who just ask for money but don't require payment for their mods?
Absolutely not.
If you find paid mods, list them here so they can be reported to their IP owners.
