A remake of Gothic 1 can never give off the same vibes as the original version, because more abstract ("primitive") visuals affect your mind differently. Compare Silent Hill and Silent Hill 2 to modern horror games, and you'll find a world of difference. Part of that is the monster and environment design, sure, but it's also the less detailed graphics. Things being more representative and abstract helps to convey the feeling of horror and dread a lot better than if everything was shiny and realistic.
We are arguably losing more than we are gaining by the advancement in visuals.

Are you really sure that this is the case with horror games? Could it not just be that you're older and desensitized, thus they aren't scary anymore? That has to be least be somewhat of a factor. People shit their pants and cried when they saw Poltergeist in the theater back when it was new. The thing about the earlier games, no matter what they are, is that what we remember is filtered through what our minds filled in. What I mean is that Gen X and Boomers had grown up with reading as a main form of entertainment. We had our minds being able to imagine the worlds and actions described within the pages. We took that training of our mind and transposed it to the primitive graphics of early computer games.
I remember MW1 as being this amazing 3D experience where every Unseen Mech was a glorious display and the landscape was beautifully rendered. Looking at the game now we see the primitive polygons and the atrocious landscape for what it is due to the fact that graphic cards can render realistic scenes that remove our need to fill in the blanks. In other words, today's rendering technology has made us stupid in that it removed the required imagination that was needed in the earlier games for true immersion.
Think back to all of the prior games from the 1990s and early 2000s. See how we went from the primitive graphics of Wolfenstein to Duke Nukem 3D in the span of 4 years. Also remember that the artists of the time were trying to make realistic looking scenes on decidedly very pixelated CRT monitors. You'd think so, but that isn't the case. I always get a sense of unease playing the older Silent Hills, that I haven't gotten with modern horror games. I've long since past the point of crapping myself in fear, yet Silent Hill 4 is still the scariest game ever made in my eyes, no game even comes close to it. You can even feel something similar playing non-horror titles like Garry's Mod and staring at the liminal spaces of the Source Engine. It's a feeling that only """bad""" graphics can convey. To be clear however, I will always prefer remastering a game rather than remaking it. The former enhances the original with all of it's assets, animations, etc intact. While the latter has to take artistic liberties in attempting to translate lower poly models into a higher definition one. The best remasters are ones made by fans, through source ports or decompiling game code. That's where your OpenMWs and the like come from, and it's why Doom as an IP has remained relevant long past it's sell-by date.
I haven't played FFX and don't ever care to, but devs can and have botched remasters in the past. The best example I can give is the Silent Hill HD Collection and the Jak and Daxter Collection for PS3. If done poorly, a remaster can do the opposite and hurt the original.

A group of industry veterans who have previously worked on The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077 have today (May 31) announced their new studio, Blank. Blank was co-founded by Mateusz Kanik, game director of Cyberpunk 2077, along with The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 executive producers, Jędrzej Mróz and Marcin Jefimow.
The new studio will be applying its years of experience to bring “beautifully crafted games and unique experiences to players, favoring novel territory rather than well-trodden ground (ie. no clones, or predictable entries).”
Alongside its studio announcement, Blank also shared a piece of concept art for its first unannounced project, which you can view above. The image shows a character-driven game set in an apocalypse, “with a twist or two”.► Show Spoiler
Kanik will be taking on the role of game director on Blank’s new title, while Mróz and Jefimow will be acting as executive producers. Mikołaj Marchewka will also be joining as the managing director. Blank has also brought on both Michal Dobrowolski as design director and Artur Ganszyniec as narrative director — both of who have a history with CD Projekt Red — with Grzegorz Przybyś set to act as the art director as Art Director.

Even the company's name and logo is nauseating, and contradictory to their supposed mission statement. It's some abstract, modern "art" piece with what looks to be an all-seeing eye in the centre of it. Combine that with the strong independent woman in the concept art piece, and it's not looking very good.

“We’ve carefully assessed all teams in the company in terms of their expected contribution to the delivery of our strategy,” Kiciński writes. “There’s no easy way to say this, but today we are overstaffed.
“We have talented people on board who are finishing their tasks and – based on current and expected project needs – we already know we don’t have other opportunities for them in the next year.
“The outcome is the studio parting ways with around 100 people, which is roughly 9% of the entire team.
“This will not be immediate as some employees will be let go as late as Q1 2024 but, in the spirit of transparency, we’ve chosen to share the information now. We want team members to have ample time to process and adjust to the change, and we’ve also made sure to offer everyone a comprehensive severance package.”
