might be cool, except that it's a "character-driven" storyfag game

New weapons need to be scavenged? Why can't they be manufactured on your spaceship? These aren't goddam yachts, they've got bosuns and engineers and electricians on them, then they've got everyone they need to make whatever they need. Its reasonable to assume space ships will have a bigass manufacturing deck.

Just became aware of this game's (future) existence. Will reply to this thread to mark the start of my journey from "expectation" to "love at first sight" to "start to notice the cracks" until finally "can't even look at the thing" and eventually "maybe mods will fix it?". It will be an amazing trip, I'm sure.

Lacking the easily recognizable visuals of Battle Brothers, I wonder how well this will do.

Ever sine Owlcat, I've learned to not suck off devs based on one great game. I demand constant and continued excellence. I ******* DEMAND IT GODDAMN IT!

It's easier to pull off 2D, low budget indie 3D never ends up looking particularly great.

Every time I see the capsule art for this game I think of the Traveller books.

Still says releasing 2024, anyone know if it's going to be delayed?

The brothers at Overhype appeared on some German eceleb's show and announced new stuff for Battle Brothers, as well as delaying Menace to 2025.

My women's intuition says it'll probably be delayed (and is Early Access anyway). Overhype_Casey AKA Hoggart Time, the owner of the Discord channel, has misquoted the song Never Come Down next to a dancing Pepe in his profile if that helps.

I want to be more of a fan of it, but it has brutal RNG. Maybe I was missing something, though.

The problem I had with Battle Brothers is the metagame game where the difficulty of the map increases turn by turn and if you are not optimized or have bad RNG luck and a lot of deaths, you get behind the power curve, and ordinary players can't really catch up.
This is almost the opposite problem to The Elder Scrolls Oblivion where everything in the game scales to you and you can't under or overlevel (with some caveats), and my preferred solution is the same: fixed difficulty by area.

On topic: this game has been on my radar for a while but I was not aware the Battle Brothers guys were making it and now I am concerned they are using the same design philosophy above that I dislike.

You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

I believe they created difficulty sliders to solve for that. I don't remember which options makes it so the progression of the world is slower than normal, allowing players to catch up. Additionally, Battle Brothers has the design mentality of roguelites, where you are supposed to be rely heavily on resource management and make the most out of the hand that is dealt to you.

I do agree, sometimes bad RNG screws you over and kills your best Bros and depending on the situation, bouncing back may be either very hard or impossible, dooming the run. But, the idea is to just start a new run. However, in my experience, the game has the same difficulty curve as many games like it, in the sense that the beginning is a brutal gauntlet for survival but at some point you get so much money, renown and resources that even losing max level Bros is not a run killer since you have the means to hire the better and more expensive backgrounds like Hedge Knight or Swordmaster and deck them out on the nearest town with a Fort.

This one looks awesome and I believe in Overhype Studios so I will be waiting for the release. I may not end up enjoying it as much, but I know it will be a good game as long as they put in as much effort and support as they did with the Battle Brothers.

They were upfront with it
Command a strike force of marines, mercenaries, and criminals in a distant system, cut off from the Core Worlds

Is it that hard to not support racemixing games with your money?
