Prepare yourself for a journey to a world of fantasy and adventure! A land fallen into chaos needs stalwart heroes to save it from a sinister and powerful force of evil... Enter a massive sprawling world of wild forests, frozen plains, misty mountains, scorched deserts, and endless oceans. Explore cities, towns and villages to rest and recover as well as buy equipment. Talk to sages, warriors, peasants and sovereigns to aid you in your quest. Sail the open seas or pilot boats up rivers. Descend into dark dungeons, castle ruins, and mysterious places to find treasure, fight evil, and locate powerful relics. Do you have what it takes to save the Realms of Antiquity? This is a retro computer role-playing game, written for the classic TI-99/4a home computer, released in 1981. It runs in full emulation on modern Windows systems as well as the original hardware. Provided ready-to-play in the Classic99 emulator!

Features:
  • 16-Color bitmap enhanced graphics
  • Nine character classes
  • Control up to four characters
  • 2d turn-based tactical combat
  • Huge multi-disk fantasy world
  • Over 250 unique powerful items
  • 60 spells, seven schools of magic
  • Over 200 terrifying monsters
  • NPC's with complex dialogue
  • How to acquire: Steam/GOG.
  • How to play: TBD. The game comes with an emulator, but it may run on a real TI-99/4a for those that own one!

NOTE:
When considering whether and where to acquire the game, you should be aware that the developer probably hates you if you enjoy using this forum.
Thank you for your attention to this matter!

There's no gay **** in it though, except maybe the spell books being code for faggotry because they're all the colors of the rainbow.

For people who are going to play this:

Hero class is special and forces you to start the game solo, but the hero is also the most powerful class and the only one aside from fighters who can use firearms (yes, there's guns in this game).
If you don't make a full party or go Hero keep in mind that there's one joinable NPC of every class except hero. Once they're in the party they cannot be removed.
Unique enemies have special loot tables and a chance to drop stat boosting items, but it's random so you might want to savescum before fighting them.
The spell system is kind of a pain in the ***.

Make sure you save often, especially before entering a town or dungeon. You can only save from the overland map.
Never press ESC! It loads the game. It's an emulator issue. You can edit this in config, but it apparently doesn't always stick.

As Tweed said, if you start with less than a full party, you can add up to 4 total. If you add an NPC, some of them aren't available for a long while. They occasionally have their own mini story content as well.
Thieves are extremely useful.
Hero class is called easy mode, and while it is the most powerful single class, it's more of an early advantage than anything. Recommended Hero stat build at start (10 8 8 10)This game has been beaten using nearly every combo imaginable (all wizard, all ranger, solo each class, etc.)
If you drop an item, it's gone forever. So if you really want something, hold onto it.

There are actually some choices to make in the game, unbelievable as it may seem...

There's a TI-99/4a emulator for android, but he doesn't list it's supportability on his website.

Reminds me of Ultima I and Vampyr: Talisman of Invocation. Looks like fun, I'll give it a try. Image

The manual has some nice art in it:
Nice art!.webp

Are there any non-obvious deadlocks I should avoid, items that if discarded will brick the main quest for instance?

I honestly can't remember if there's any softlocks. Most of those kinds of things have been fixed and the most recent update made a number of things easier.

Playing with the Hero is EZ mode...until you run up against something where it isn't. There are some very, very powerful optional encounters in the game.

Pretty good game so far. Everything's been logical and if something isn't explained in the manual one of the townsfolk will usually expound on it.

I found something that may be interesting, here's an interview with the developer of Realms of Antiquity:

I thought that ice magic was Blue magic, it is actually Indigo. Here's a chart to help everyone one else avoid my mistake:
The seven types of magic.webp
The Paladin I recruited is neither the healer nor damage dealer I was expecting... :scratch-pipe:
(Judging by the spellbooks I've now encountered: That would have been Red magic, so the Crusader I think...)

Still trying to remember what I was doing...

I think I was headed back to the ruined city because I forgot something important in the museum, something about repairing the elevator. I hope that's the only thing that was on my itinerary...

I couldn't find as much time as I'd have liked in March for Realms of Antiquity: The Shattered Crown, but I haven't given up.

I haven't encountered the museum yet, I think. But I can offer a bit of help about the elevator if you want:

I have a theory: :scratch-pipe:
So far none of the mages seem to know who caused the teleportation and placed the 'geas'. What if the evil Overlord himself has summoned me so that I can gather the scattered crown fragments for him. I am heading his way carrying every shard I can find...

Seems like you only get one save slot unless you back up the file manually?
Yep, just the one save. Image

My advice is to just be a bit careful about saving when adjacent to powerful overworld roaming monsters or while in a dungeon you're not sure your party can escape. As long as you're reasonably cautious about where you do it, I've found the limited saving isn't really a problem.

I'm hesitant to use up valuable skill points that could raise Melee, but I'm starting to think the Rogue really needs some extra Resist. Status effects are taking her out of the fight way to often. Image

I think the other classes get a little bit of Resist by increasing their Sorcery and magic affinities, so they may be fine without it. :scratch-pipe:

I'm going to have to restart. Czernos locked me in his castle and I can't beat him with the supplies/skills I've got. That blows, but I should be able to recoup a lot of time just by knowing what to do.

Beating the mech as I recall (because I still haven't quite gotten my bearings back) gets you: the blaster rifle and a suit of power armor. The mech might be the absolute hardest thing to kill in the game, I played that one to the wire, but the equipment is amazing and since I have the fighter and he's the only other class that can use firearms that's two of us using high-tech ranged weapons.

@Tweed I have a hero, fighter, and rogue. What do you recommend for the fourth? I'm leaning towards wizard or crusader, but only know where the warlock is.

I went with the fighter, paladin, and warlock. Fighter is a melee/ranged powerhouse with the other firearm and has that lunge, paladin is a buffbot, and warlock is primed to cast most other spells to pick up the slack when my fatigue is low, also has a nice wand.

Are companions required?
Without recruiting additional party members your inventory space will be extremely restricted.
(If you're using magic each spellbook takes up an inventory slot)

Also, If you choose to find party members instead of creating them during the start:
There are a few interactions with extra text for each of the people that join you.
