Kohan: Ahriman's Gift tgxpack

Post by Acrux »

If anyone modded the Kohan games, you'll remember the K-MOD tool created by the development team. It was great for what it was - a GUI that let you change a lot of variables in the game. It opened up modding quite a bit. You could create new units or buildings (based on existing ones), make support units available on the frontline, tweak stats for cities, units, or leaders, and so on. The main drawbacks were relying on units that were already editable and that new things - like new spells or heroes - couldn't be created.

That's all changed.

A couple of months ago, a new tgx editor was released: https://github.com/tim-de/tgxpack. This allows you to unpack all of the files and make any changes that you want - new spells, new heroes, more freedom for campaign editing. This is huge! There's already a group working on "Kohan Gold" which will be an updated community pack that has balance changes for campaigns and multiplayer, lots of new spells and units, and makes the Kohan Immortal Sovereign campaign playable in KAG.

What might block some people is that unpacking and repackaging the tgx files does require knowing a bit about using the command prompt. There's a barebones tutorial on the mod page that likely won't help anyone. I'm including how to unpack and repackage in the spoiler below.

After that, it's just XML editing.

This is the beginning of a renaissance for Kohan mods.
