Team Fortress 2 Thread

Post by Humbaba »

Every gaming forum needs one of these.

Recently reinstalled because of the summer update, which is quite nice. Bots have largely disappeared, not to say that they're entirely gone. The mega tryhards with their glorified NFT cosmetics are also still around but they're not as skilled as I remember them.

The community has gone quite soy, complaining about "toxicity" and such. I don't understand that personally, I'm not toxic, I'm just being an ******* for fun. The last undrafted Russian youths can also still be found on EU servers, isn't that nice?

My favourite class is the SPAH but random crits really invalidate all the effort behind getting a backstab. Amazed how they still haven't removed those but we can't ask too much of Valve these days. Best game mode remains payload.

Someone called me gay in-game and for a moment I thought I was playing with one of you guys.

Triggering the Russians is great fun.

I have never been called gay in a game. Must have been something you were doing that was gay.

There was a definite ****** in pubs yesterday doing the very unconvincing non-passing female voice trick. He was alright at the game at least.

I've come to rethink the role of Spy and have come to the conclusion that decades of youtuberism and faulty discussion has lead to a false consensus regarding his role. It has come to be widely accepted that Spy is somehow the worst or weakest class in the game, which I don't think is true.

Spy is the most specialised class in the game. This does not mean that he is the worst class though. People think of Spy primarily as a pick class, which is flat out wrong. Spy CAN get picks of course but that is not his primary function. Sniper is the primary pick class of tf2. Backstabs compared to headshots are extremely risky plays, which will get you killed often. Spy is a saboteur and punish class, whose job it is NOT to get sick frags. By this token, the Spy's main prey is NOT Heavies, Demos or Soldiers, because a Sniper can take care of them much more safely.

Spy's job is to kill Engies, Snipers and everyone else who's dumb enough to go off on his own. Remember, tf2 is a TEAM game. Spy exists to heavily discourage cowboying. He also exists to keep the enemy on their toes. If you don't have a Spy who is in the backline, sapping tellys and sentries and backstabbing Snipers and Engies then the enemy gets an unwarranted amount of security. You don't even need to kill anybody for you to be an effective Spy. At worst you can tag someone from a safe spot, wounding him and forcing a retreat. Even if you get discovered, you can potentially distract a good number of people trying to track you down. In my experience, people will drop anything they're doing in order to go after a Spy. All according to keikaku if you ask me.

Sadly, Valve has released lots of crutch weapons, chief among them are the Kunai and the Dead Ringer, which is a loadout most Spies use these days in order to get as many sick frags as possible. Those Spies never win any games though.

I have outsourced TF2 to my steam account on porting kit (i.e. my windows account) to prepare for the inevitability of upgrading my mac and thus being unable to run 32 bit apps and to try out Open Fortress. Ironically it runs a lot better.

Tried to play again. Lost interest because there are like 2 dedicated servers that don't have completely ****** settings and they only run ****** community maps. At one point there were two people with pronouns in their names on my team.

Also, it's significantly uglier than before. Everybody is emitting fireworks and doing poorly animated dance taunts that never end.

It feels as though the GMOD and SFM brainrot managed to penetrate even the game itself. From what I had played of TF2 Classic though, a fan mod, it didn't seem to have any of the problems you mentioned.

I tried

There were 3 other players online in an Australian server. At least one of them was Russian.

I like how this leaderboard counts ***** and ****** as two different slurs and America has both in the top five.

TF2 feels like the multiplayer equivalent of going through puberty. Only now, you may get groomed by a pyro main with a furry avatar.

If you meant Uncletopia servers, yes, they're woke af, same with ugc, blackwonder & furrypond among others.

Zesty servers have players, it just depends on time of day, right now the Germany server is at 21/24.

Slightly off-topic, but I recently read that people with scalie fursonas are sort of outcasts among the furry community. It's like a red flag of super mental illness even to them. Also, random crits are poopy.
