How much of the whining over Denuvo comes from broke asses and those in third world countries rather than legitimate concerns about game preservation?
Enjoy paying minimum $80 for broken always-online slop that can be taken from you at a moment's notice for saying the ******-word on twitter.
I think you missed my point. I’m just as against drm as anyone here, and most of my game collection is from gog.

What I meant is that a lot of the noise around Denuvo comes from people who, like Val said, see gaming mostly as a social event. They want to jump on the hype around the latest big AAA release but don’t actually want to pay full price for it.

I once saw redditors losing it because their favorite narcissistic shemale hacker said he wasn’t interested in cracking weebshit games. Same deal with favela dwellers.

Debating if I should make a thread for (attempted) mod development but I made some presets
Mods used:
Half Elf Half Orc
Astralities' Fantasy Skintone Expansion/Demon Eyes/Glow Eyes
Half Tiefs

Note: Forest and Ice Trolls will likely have Strong body options since they are big bois (and girls), But idk if it'll look good or not.
Also Zandalari will get Gith-like scales, and may require Unique Tav to have body scales.
I will try my best to use 'softer' looking heads to avoid Resting Troll Face

Boss phases are fun when it's not overdone and it's actually unexpected that the boss regains his health when it goes down to 0

That sounds like a presentation issue. Have a boss with 1,000 HP who regens to full two times when he reaches 1 HP, why not have a boss with 3,000 HP who enters a new phase when his HP dips below the 2,000 and 1,000 marks. That way you see a time estimate from the beginning and you don't feel like your progress is being reversed.

Silent Hill 1 Remake in development. As if seeing people praise SH2 Remake; a sanded-down, polished, soulless regurgitation of the original, was not harrowing enough.

I ******* hate remake culture and wish misery upon all the spastics that hype up and enjoy this ****.

due to SH1's low poly graphics it would take a lot of creative effort to reimagine it as a modern game, way more than it was required for SH2.

So at least it's gonna be interesting to see how they are going to do that.

More like 'press X to dodge or fly down or accept the quest or close the menu or swim down or activate combo or melee counter or take cover (context dependent)'.

True; certainly more than SH2 remake that's for sure. But I feel no anticipation or excitement for this considering how SH2 Remake turned out. Sure, the game might look great, have a good sound design, and all the technical aspects necessary for someone to call it a decent 'AAA' game - but until I'm proven otherwise, it's not 'Silent Hill'. Something that cannot be re-created by modern devs. And I'm sick of remakes being churned out which just take something of the past, and alter/distort it to fit the accepted language of the present. And gay-mers will accept and play it because it's the "latest" and "modernized" version of the game, under the delusion that the game somehow still embodies all the necessary characteristics of the original game.

All remakes do is perpetuate the consumerist mindset that devalues the older titles, with the implication that older titles are obsolete and not worth playing without a modern overhaul. It's betrayal of the past, and considering the way in which remakes are produced nowadays, possibly even a bastardization of it and the source material. There's a video I watched recently that perfectly phrased this; Silent Hill 1 is a PS1 game, not a malleable concept to be reshaped for profit or convenience and consumption by *******. I cannot think of a better embodiment of a culture that is itself devoid of any identity and one that prioritize 'accessibility' and 'marketability' over artistic integrity. In an ideal world, the industry would balance innovation with preservation; you'd still get your AAA modern titles, while encouraging players to older titles like Silent Hill in their original form. But since when has the concept of 'balance' ever existed in any successful entertainment industry?

that's all true, and i hate this "I'm a huge fan of Silent Hill series, never played a single game but watched all of these 12hrs long video essays, lore videos and plot explanations, Silent Hill 2 Remake is going to be the first SH game I'll actually play! So excited!" thing that became prevalent recently.

At the same time, I kinda stopped caring about anything. Gamers are absolute bottom of the barrel goy cattle, the gaming industry absolutely deserves this ****. 'Gamers' refuse to play older titles and opt for a modernized homogenized remake? Their loss.

Really?

I got the impression that the game had been well-received, and that people were praising the campaigns, and especially the DLC ones.

Instead of remakes, I just want more source ports. Fans are porting old games natively to modern OS's, including Linux, and allow you to experience them with a plethora of modern enhancements. As far as I'm concerned, they surpass "remakes" in every possible way.

Agreed. Just patch any longstanding bugs and make sure it runs flawlessly on modern hardware and I'm happy. Image

The only thing I know is that his games had minigames like trying to befriend a character, and Toby Fox did some music for Pokemon.

I likewise never felt interested in the game, neither its mechanics nor its lore.

The only thing I genuinely enjoyed about it was the theory videos about how the skeleton dude was somehow connected to Ness from the Super Smash Bros games.

They're going to make Cybil fat and Mexican.

That being said, you can successfully remake a Resident Evil game because those games are more about the gameplay and mechanics than they are about the narrative.

Silent Hill, on the other hand, was always light on mechanics, with combat and resource management an afterthought, so the only path open to the developers is to expand on the gameplay (and combat especially), because they know consumers are going to complain about the "clunky" gameplay if they keep it faithful, and since SH games are big budget, they can't make them too hardcore.

What you then end up with is deeper combat that feels more visceral, but also actively undermines the SH premise of being some random schmuck stuck in a supernatural town, scared out of your wits. can't have that if James is beating up on the nurses like a GTA protagonist after ******* a hooker.

It's a lose/lose scenario. The best alternative would have been to make wholly new SH games specifically built around the franchise's strengths.
