Denuvo decides to ruin video games further by making UE games unmoddable

Denuvo says the feature “shields Unreal Engine game data files against decryption, blocks the use of in-game debug consoles, and conceals entry points to deter game modification”. While this may mean malicious modification, in theory it could make it harder for players to access data needed for other game mods too.
Thank you for your attention to this matter!

That's the kiss of death to your game, unless it's something like a Planescape: Torment or a Dark Souls. But even P:T or Dark Souls, eventually, had some mods going.

I'm not sure what they're thinking, but this is not going in the right direction.

Mediocre or bad games can still have parts that are good.

Unreal engine cannot die soon enough, it's one of the main reasons of the decline of videogame developers. Why would you learn how to make games, when you can just buy a bunch of premade assets from unreal store, and then slap some blueprints onto them?

Also this is what Unreal 5 does to a computer with the most expensive consumer level graphics card on the market:

None of those games look good enough to justify why they can get away with running sub-60 fps on a goddamn RTX 4090. This garbage's not the second coming of Crysis for sure.

Unreal is a great engine. You are blaming the manufacturer of a screwdriver for studios hiring people trying to use it as a hammer. Also blaming Unreal for Denuvo existing. Galaxy brain stuff guys.

Also, the first 3 versions of Unreal were very mod friendly. I don't have personal experience with the current version.

One of the core tenets of engineering is that everything will get used as a hammer. If you haven't accounted for this, you haven't done your job as an engineer.

I agree, but this is unfortunately not what will kill them, if anything can.

I wish this was true, but it's just not. PC gaming is rapidly turning into Console gaming, and the paypigs have no difficulty lapping it up and supporting it all the way to the gallows. They will ***** and moan and then throw their money at the screen.

UE5 is kind of an abomination.
