After everyone makes their moves and rolls, I'll do it for the rats and see the order of actions to examine the order of actions so I can write a narrative for the round, I'm expecting it to be pretty fast. Let's hope it's fun!

@ERYFKRAD
I don't think the two-handed bonus applies to the attack roll, merely the damage roll?
Medium melee weapons designed for both one- or two-handed use, such as flails, battle axes, maces, picks, spears, swords, and warhammers, deal 1d6 points of damage when wielded one-handed, or 1d8 points of damage when wielded two-handed.
[edit]
Woops, I misread your rolls I think. I need to add named rolls.
I didn't even add that bonus, just str bonus to the damage. I put down the logic in spoilers.

Mucking around.

Ok, you can't say "Nd6!" for N exploding dice, you have to roll them one by one.

If I'm understanding this correctly. A rat with an armor value of 1 means that any roll of a 1d20 for 11 or higher will hit the rat.

Bonus/Penalty values would then make it so that I'm rolling for any value over 7. (Or 6 if the 'Fighting Experience' skill also gives 1+ to hit)

Code: Select all

. Sharp-Eyed negates the low light penalty so no '-1 to hit' from that.
. Strength 18 gives a '+3 to hit.
. Fighting Style: Single weapon gives a '+1 to hit'.
. Fighting Experience gives ???.
Do I have that right?

I rolled less than 10 so I swung and missed, but if I did hit then how much does Fighting Experience add?
That's a good question since I made up that. How do you guys feel of giving a +1 bonus to attack rolls for Fighting Experience (meaning to all level 1 fighters)?
Irenaeus wrote: ↑ April 1st, 2025, 00:24
By the way, all Fighters have a default +1 bonus to damage (both melee and missile).
@Irenaeus Does the 'Fighting Experience' skill just add +1 damage or is it also +1 to hit as well?

And is the 'Fighting Experience' bonus in addition to the 'default +1 bonus to damage' you mentioned fighters having or is that the name of the skill that is granting the default bonus?

@Ireneu question, regarding thief skills, the rule book states the following:
Thieves have the following range of skills, which improve as the thief gains levels according to the progression on the Thief Skills table. When a thief attempts to make use of one of his skills, the character or Judge will make a proficiency throw of 1d20. (Usually the Judge will make rolls for these abilities, because a thief is not always aware when he has failed.)
Do you wanna do those skill rolls or should I do them? I'm not gonna use a skill right now, seeing as hiding in shadows is a 19+ at level 1, but I think it couldn't hurt to get this out of the way early.

Hey, spellsword! I'm inclined to have Fighting Experience give +1 to attack rolls (not +1 to damage that Fighters already have), as I posted above. If you agree, post that on the Rules thread.

You can do the skill rolls yourself when you announce you're taking that action, and if I rule that you shouldn't be aware when if you failed, I'll do the roll in secret and announce the results - maybe a failed roll won't be immediately apparent depending on the skill.

Also, a cellar that 12 grown men hadn't even began to fill with their bodies is a goddamn huge one for a mud pit.
It's either a sacrificial pit for us all (roof falls, everyone dies, blood for the rat god), some kind of trader's warehouse or the inn stands on top of some older foundation (proceed to discover loli elf skellingtons).
I commented about that with my char actually. I'm expecting a full blown dungeon at this point
Yes, it's a big cellar. You'll be able to explore it after the fight, but I don't promise any mega-dungeon :)

Do we know each other's names or did we enter the inn and just went down into the basement to kill rats without saying a word to each other?

Up to you players, as far as I described you came to this town on the same and were at the Inn at the same time as a big coincidence. Maybe you made small talk or some of you are old friends or rivals. You may want to come up with that stuff, otherwise everyone is a stranger to each other for now.

The reactions to the innkeeper's plead to go kill rats seemed pretty spontaneous!

What was the reason for the sudden need to get rid of the rats? Did I miss this?
I'd assume they've been there for a while if there's a den of them?

[edit]
If it's not clear I'm just following along and reading it like a collaborative story which is why I've been participating in the OOC threads :popcorn2:

The innskeeper's plead:
Irenaeus wrote: ↑ March 28th, 2025, 22:36
The innkeeper, Brenna, approaches the group. She's a stout woman with flour dusting her apron and worry lines creasing her brow.

"Forgive my boldness," she says, wiping her hands on her apron, "but you lot look like you can handle yourselves. I... we... have a problem. Rats. Not just the usual field mice, but big, nasty ones. Got into the cellar, bold as brass. Spoiling what little food stores we have left before winter really bites. I can't afford to lose more, and frankly, my husband Olwin is too stiff and my young Petyr is too scared to go down there anymore. I can't offer much – a hot meal for each of you, maybe a round of ale, and... five copper pieces apiece? Please, can you clear them out? Especially the big one?"

They might have been, who knows? Such information wasn't disclosed by the innkeeper.

tried changing the strings, I input clearer information at first and thought it may have been certain symbols or string-length and other dice values (1d20 instead of d20).

@rusty_shackleford I did not try using it without any components and will do so now.

Remove the '+' from the '+2', I'll alter it to strip that in a fix later

Could have figured that one, though it's just natural for me to add the + to the value in dice rolling. It's fine if you add it as a possible input but I can also just do it without now after knowing what the issue is.

Hey @Ireneu are the proportions of the rats in the image below about accurate? Just in case one of us may want to throw them, skin or butcher them for rations. Keep in mind that Zollo's a tall bloke.

I think one of us should plunder the food, then with the oil flask, one should shout to clear the cellar, throw it down the stairs, and set it on fire with a candle. The alcohol should catch fire, and once the inn is engulfed in flames, and the village is in panic, we take a couple wagons and asses and leave. Good plan?

The rats are just 35cm long, weight about 3kg, and their height is something like 15cm.

In retrospect, giving them 4 hp is too excessive. 2 hp would have been better.
