Almost all of them copy nu-xcom, which was at best an OK game. The clones are derivative crap.

Nucom was ok but Nucom 2 I think was great. I am getting tired though of seeing the nucom movement and cover system copied everywhere. More games should be like JA2 but with a bit more transparency regarding firing angle and such.

Looks like they are very easy to make, so likely never.

The guy who owned the studio that made Hard West did a talk on how devs copy nu-xcom because it sells, but his games that copied nu-xcom seemed to actually not sell whereas Hard West is remembered for it being rather unique.
The only part of marketing that seems to work is identifying your target demographic, the rest is ********.

While not a nucom clone, the inspiration is pretty obvious when it comes to ui elements and cover.

Additionally he admitted on the Codex that Hard West's success was a fluke because Showgunners was the first game where he actually had the goal of making it fun to play.

It means he just didn't understand it.

I like the nucom movement system a lot more than counting AP.

Maybe nucom is truly perfection since no one seems to be able to move past its system.

They aren't really tactical games though because the primary skill is triggering only one pack of aliens at a time and then wiping most of them out before they can act.

Hiding behind cover isn't really the same as flanking, opportunity attacks, melee units, degrees of success, and so on.

It's just simple to understand by idiots, but, depending on the map you make, hard to master.

Which is, usually, the ideal gaming loop.

Half of the fight here, in my opinion, is against human nature. :headbang:

Mediocre or bad games can still have parts that are good.
