There is some cringe anime **** in here and a heavy "racism bad" thread that's going through the story already.
However, there are few women so far aside from a sexy fairy woman and pretty much everyone is some kind of white.
I suggest you try the demo and see if you can tolerate the anime ****. There's also a weird scene where there's two young boys and they both look like little girls and I get the feeling the people making it are into young boys which made me want to vomit a little, but there's nothing explicit, I'm probably just hyper sensitive because I hate anime and anything even a little weird gets my hackles up.
The game play is great so far and it's my favorite thing about it. It's like an easier Shin Megami Tensei if you are playing on normal. I can't even say the amount of times my balls got twisted trying to play SMT 4 and 5 and just getting my ******* pegged by the difficulty. This feels much more like it's going to be a normal JRPG but more "dark".

Meh. I become weary of Atlus in recent years post Sega Buyout. The games have been leaning towards copying a lot elements of the persona games of 3,4 ,5 ( cough*** Soul Hackers 2 Cough) and making **** ton of persona spin off’s
I admit after seeing the gameplay that it appears trying to differentiate its self more but I can’t shake the feeling that it’s just not enough for me buy it at least not full retail price.

I mean, the fantasy setting and political focus does a lot of the heavy lifting to differentiate, but overall this is just feels like Persona v5.5. I did like the concept art for this game, but it seems the designs didn't translate well with the in-engine 3D models...I blame console limitations. Considering they already have a PS4 version, I wouldn't be surprised if the release Metaphor: ReFantazio Deluxe for the Switch 2 in a year or so. No point in buying it now.

I've never played persona but I've started and quit many SMT games

Ah, then you'll be fine. Mind you, I don't think this game will be bad, just mostly a retreading of previous SMT/Persona entries (specially when SMTV and Persona 5 felt like there was some hybridization going on). Hopefully that is just my initial perception and the full release will leave me pleasantly surprised.
Haven't played it yet but I spent a few minutes clicking around through demo footage and everything I saw looked very promising.
I had tons of fun with SMTV and the exploration, and Metaphor also looks to be open-world so hopefully it can capture some of that. Of course, SMTV didn't have much of a plot, but that looks like it could be a strong point in Metaphor based on the cutscenes I watched. Art and character designs are top-notch.
I hated P5. It was tedious and overlong and didn't have the plot to carry its runtime (or even half of it). Plus it was so easy that I didn't get the gameplay enjoyment that I did from past Persona/SMT games. So hopefully Metaphor can improve on that.
The UI hurts my eyes. I don't need the entire screen to explode with colors and constantly vibrating UI elements when I'm killing low level enemies to grind xp
Combat music is also silly and sounds like the news anchor fish from SpongeBob speaking in tongues.
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?
I wonder how accurate the English translations from the Japanese script ended up being:
probably accurate, jap games are giga-woke
It really a coin flip.Sometimes they can be very based and other times woke, then again there woke isn’t nearly as insufferable as Western wokeness.
Perhaps that's even scarier. Them being able to make the same elements of Leftism more appealing, because they are basically benefiting from a society that hasn't caught up with the counterculture we are often exposed to.
Instead of them being made by totally off-putting, stupid, spiteful freaks, they're like a Siren's song.
