Star Shift Rebellion is a JRPG that features turn based combat with your party planet-side as well as your fleet in orbit. The developer of this game was kind enough to send me a few keys to hand out here after I accidentally messaged him thinking he was someone else. His logo is a skeleton smoking weed which is pretty cool. If anyone would like one, just let me know.

You can also play the first (standalone) game for free

I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

This looks really interesting. The fact that you have two seperate groups to control in completely different areas sounds like a unique way of handling things. Though I wonder, can you help out the planet-side group with the one in orbit? (I could check it out myself if you'd be so kind to give one of the keys)

I'm unsure if it's a simultaneous jump back-and-forth thing but I'll send you a key so you can find outFinarfin wrote: β September 5th, 2024, 00:52This looks really interesting. This looks really interesting. I am actually in the very early stages (writing) of a project that involves some of the same concepts (traditional JRPG planet exploration with tactical battles for space fleets and land vehicles) so I'd really like to see how they pulled this one together if you have enough keys.

Key received. Thanks!
I'm curious. Who did you think he was, and about what did you message him?Oyster Sauce wrote: β September 5th, 2024, 00:47The developer of this game was kind enough to send me a few keys to hand out here after I accidentally messaged him thinking he was someone else.
I meant to message a developer with a similar avatar to see if he'd be interested in sharing keys for the forum and accidentally wrote to Star Shift guy instead. He showed me his game and I said it looked cool so he gave me some keys for the boys anyway.WhiteShark wrote: β September 5th, 2024, 06:35Key received. Thanks!I'm curious. I've put in a bit over an hour and so far it seems like an interesting game. I assume this was made in RPG maker and I haven't played many of those games and am not that familiar with what's out there or the general quality, but these are my general observations:
-So far it seems well-paced (other than adding party members too quickly) and the way it tells the story is well-done in terms of transitions and cinematic variety for this class of game
-The writing is decent. I can't say it has grabbed me yet, but I also don't find it sloppy or off-putting, which is an accomplishment given how many jrpgs have abysmal, ESL-level writing. Time will tell whether it ends up being good.
-I haven't seen enough combat to judge the battle systems, but I already have 7 party members, some of which have as many as 12 equipment slots. They have around 8 skill trees each, some common, others specific to the race/class of the character. So I can see that it's very ambitious but obviously haven't gotten deep into that yet.
-The biggest knock on it would be the visuals, which in some aspects I like, but there are assets that clash in terms of resolution and color intensity that hurt the visual cohesiveness. It would have greatly benefited from desaturating them slightly and pixel-filtering everything to a common resolution.
-Bug-wise, it crashed when I was deploying troops in the first battle but no issues since.
I'm looking forward to getting deeper into it because I love space opera jrpgs, but I've pretty much exhausted the decent games in the genre, so it's cool to see something new and unexpected out of nowhere that seems like it might shape up to be a pretty good game.
