Kagha has a point...Dialogue Change Request

Post by JimboJambo »

I find the Act 1 quest with Kagha and Zevlor far too 1-sided in how the Tieflings are portrayed as good (because they're refugees) and the druids are portrayed as evil (because they want to defend their home and no longer want to extend their hospitality to the Tieflings). It ignores how the Tieflings steal from the druids (and say to let the kids get away with it unpunished) and how the druids give up their food and water to them whilst attracting goblins. Stealing the religous symbol (the idol) is a deep taboo and given that it would stop the ritual to seal the grove, it is quite literally a declaration of civil war against the druids.

They even used "she tried to punish a child thief and got her killed, she's obviously evil!" as a cheap literary tactic. They also made it so that the only reason she would ever consider kicking the Tieflings out was because she was tricked by Shadow Druids, and not because she has a valid concern to protect her people.

There is no way to truly defend Kagha when Halsin appears and she is demoted and humiliated. Halsin always escapes back to the grove if you kill the goblin leaders, so you cannot keep Kagha in charge whilst escorting the tieflings safely unless you kill Halsin (which would be meta and uncharacteristically cruel). Only the players/devs know that our group of heroes will show up on a nautiloid and kill the goblin leaders - this meta knowledge is unknown to the NPCs and so everyone rightly believes that Halsin is dead/cannot be saved (of his own poor decision to go to the goblin fort) and they're doomed to be attacked by a goblin army - Kagha has to make a hard decision based on this. It would be enough if Kagha at least stuck to her guns and insisted that her decision would have been correct if the heroes didn't save the day (and Halsin recognised this), so she isn't demoted and they just thank the players.

Would anyone want to try to add more options that can argue for Kagha's position? It needn't have audio and just written dialogue. I understand this is probably really difficult so I know most wouldn't bother. I wouldn't bother on Nexus as they probably call anyone a racist for even suggesting the refugees aren't in the right.

I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

gay. Just kill Halsin and the Grove, problem solved. Death to all Tieflings, and those Druids.

Kagha doesn't have a point by the way. She's a serial incompetent who the moment the actual leader steps out immediately starts jockeying for power but still manages to cede the Grove to another authority (the shadow druids). She's somehow overly power hungry and a lackey to others at the same time. It's like if you left for work and after having to stay late your wife decided she owned the house and invited another man to take ownership of it.

Likewise her handling of the thief was ********. If your kid breaks into my house and steals something I have the right to seek restitution. What I don't have is the right to kidnap them, lock them in my dungeon, and potentially execute them. Neither is it considered a "declaration of war" from their parents/extended family/entire race.

I remember my grandmother saying to me: "I don't care what they tell you in school, Tieflings were BLACK."

Well, it comes down to whether or not I would defend Greta T., I suppose.
The Shadow Druids are the FR equivalents to RL Extinction Rebellion, and like the very misguided people of ER they want to diismantle civilized society altogether. Because "don't mess with nature, or it will mess with you".
Nah, I think I will not defend Kagha. She knew what she was getting herself involved in.

I would prefer a mod where Karlach/Wyll dont leave your grp if you attack the grove or you can at least keep them as an undead zombie version. But even then you miss out out on the smith in last light inn and he has some nice items like the bow with haste use which also made you resistent to cold/fire I think.

yeah I have the mod with the tutorial chest where you can get all the items but I try not to cheat too much or it feels not earned.
