Also checked out the beta today really short 20-30mins gameplay 10 monsters maybe. Didnt find a way to put torches back in inventory except for letting them burn out first which takes like 1min, cant jump while weapon is out on controller, didnt find a button to lock on enemies. Doesnt seem to have animation canceling so if you get surprised while in inventory you are probably dead. Controller sheme is really weird has dodge on the shoulder buttons and 4 different attack swing buttons. Getting health from eating takes too long cant even chew stuff fast from inventory need to watch the eating animation to finish. Beta didnt let me reduce the resolution from 3k+ down to 1920x1080 and PC was quite loud with a 3070. Hope they change the german voice/look of the main protagonist. Other npcs seemed fine but surely seems like you have to play it with keyboard mouse.

Picked up a bunch of beers. Walked forward a few steps, encountered a guard who asked me to fetch him a beer.

A good RPG would have a dialogue option that says "hey what a coincidence, I already have a beer with me! here you go".

Unfortunately, instead of that, Gothic remake just gave me a sidequest 'find a bottle of beer and bring it to a guard'.

Other than that (and a rather janky movement system) I liked the demo.

I had that same encounter. You can give him the beer if you re-speak with him again after the dialogue closes but indeed it is a bit of a sad thing to see :?
I had similar encounters in the original Gothic, but there were plenty of quests that had reactivity to the thing having already been done (at times skipping entire quests for me as I explored the place and had what was needed already), I hope these things will be brought to their attention.

bruh I'm not really impressed, melee combat plays like some poor amalgamate between Risen 3 and Dark Soy and is just not fun, range combat might be better although I didn't find any bow in my playthrough as it ended really quick. It does at least run better and have faster reloading than STALKER 2, though pretty much everything runs better than that ukropig slop.

The demo looked very unreal engine with generic landscape nanite assets, I couldn't unequip torches but I killed the black man with my fists and stole his stuff that was funny. Other than that I won't be playing the Gothic remake.

Edit: Dialog was pretty bad just seemed like Hollywood medieval millennial writing.

Didn't watch it yet, but already don't like 15 min of video justifying what they had to change.

If I remember, they said something about that the story was actually great but plotholes, inconsistencies, contradictions pulled it down. They want to try and fix these things.

Yeah, video talks pretty much about that and a few other issues. Expanded skills, music...nothing outrageous.

People rag on the devs for something they said in the making of.
Oh right, they said the devs are idiots because in the original templars never walked from the sect camp to the old mine and stuff like that. I find it good because surely even the templars smoked some of that dank ass weed.
Think I also saw a female slave (not in bikini anymore and more rags)

Is the d3d11 renderer any better now, or do textures still flicker and look ass?

Probably still looks like ass. I prefer the look of the original renderer, just use dgvoodoo2 or something
