I really can't give it higher than 6.
It's a good game, and has a lot going right for it, but there's enough to bring it down to 6.
Story - 4/10
Main story, it's weak, and makes very little sense, less as you go along -- there's also very little actual impact your 'condition' has on the story, people barely react to you being infected, if and when they find out.
Other story elements make little sense too, and seem to come out of left-field, with no real build up, and are then unceremoniously discarded; this seems to happen more frequently with character stories, however. It seems to be tied to the idea of 'being whatever character you want' -- even though it's clear that DUrge was the actual planned PC.
World Building - 3/10
There are so many contradictory things going on that make it nearly impossible to give this a good score. From tieflings that literally look like demons casually walking around, and no-one cares about this, at all... Despite being told that they have been driven out for being demons, no-one seems to care. As before, no-one seems to care that you're infected by mindflayers, if and, when they find out.
Excessive, and unrealistic modern-Western ideas being put into what is otherwise a medieval-based setting, infidelity, immodesty, transgenderism, homosexuality, occultism, so-on, and so forth; all in their own rights plausible, but to the extent they appear, and how readily accepted they are by everyone in game it becomes a net-negative to world building.
Character Creation - 4/10
Not awful, but not good, below average. No sliders, restrictive facial options (that are more black, for some reason), and a genital system that serves absolutely zero purpose in the game. No tone adjustment for voice (like earlier games have had), impacts of your character choices do not matter in game, be a Lloth-Sworn Drow, no-one really cares. Be a Duegar, no-one really cares. Be a Half-Orc, no-one really cares... Be a Tiefling... You get the gist.
Character Choices - 6/10
Decent enough, but not great. You have reasonable control over most situations, but not to an exhaustive extent, you are still tied into a few very specific outcomes in almost all instances, game does not necessarily account for anything 'wild', but it does have well thought out failsafes.
Class Development - 6/10
Decent, but nothing amazing. Characters become more poweful in a reasonably acceptable way, each class feels marginally different to each other, not much, but enough to give it more than average. However, lacks any major impact beyond minor dialogue lines, except for Paladin, but even then it's not hugely well thought out.
Graphics - 8/10
For the genre, good, better than a lot of its contemporaries. Some of the vistas are actually quite nice.
Music - 8/10
Fits the game well, I appreciate the leitmotif. Follows the trend of better scores, Howard Shore's LotR, Jeremy Soule's Skyrim, and Inon Zur's DA:O (among others).
Voices, and Dialogue - 8/10
A lot better than its contemporaries, using English (or European) actors will always be better than Americans as American-English is now so bastardised, it is impossible to make it sound anything but grotesquely modern.
Voices are not jarring, flow well with the game, and are in (almost all cases) character appropriate.
Suspension of Disbelief - 4/10
While technically also part of World Building, I felt this should be a discrete area.
Endless deluge of modern Western politics that are right from the word go, rammed into your face, damage the World and Setting almost beyond repair, they are not as egregious as other games (Forspoken, and so-on), but bad enough to do serious damage to the game.
Length of the Game - 7/10
A decent length, not too short, not too long. Suitable for the genre; though certain segments drag on too long, and other segments pass too quickly.
Gameplay 5/10
Ties into Character Choices mostly. Beyond the (relatively) shallow interactions you have with the world, it's pretty much a roll, and combat simulator. Not the worst offender I've ever played, but the narrative is weak, and so it feels a bit pointless slogging through a lot of the game, especially when, because of non-Random loot, you're pretty much forced to check every barrel to see if that's where they've hidden something good.
Combat 7/10
I actually liked the combat, all in all, it's not the strongest entry in a Larian title, I feel that DOS:2 did it better, and games like Wasteland 2 better still, but it was still an enjoyable, and compelling enough system. The ability to set up traps and use the environment was a nice change from a lot of games where you can't do that at all. But the DnD system was applied in a way that felt more of a 'Hey remember this?" rather than it being there for a reason.
Value for Money - 7/10
This is subjective, of course, but all in all, I think it's fairly priced. Not as expensive as AAA dogshit, but not as reasonably priced as other 'indie' developers. All in all, decent game for the price they ask.
Conclusion - 6/10
Notes:
I'll be deadass with you, I didn't plan this out while I was writing it, so it might seem a little disjointed, on God. But generally speaking, this is pretty much my summary of the game.
*Added some points that were missing.

The main story and unnecessary esg sauce are probably the two weakest things in the game. Makes it less replayable than the gameplay itself would make possible.
Gameplay is relatively strong (nonlinearity plus plus) and reactive.
Lots of dialogue choice.
Overall good game.
What is a 10/10? Deus Ex, Gothic 1, Gothic 2, Original Sin 1, Original Sin 2, Battlezone 1, Battlezone 2, Arx Fatalis, Shadow of Chernobyl, Call of Pripyat. Hmm... What else...

Couldn't even finish that. That armor and initiative system killed it all for me. Still shocked how anyone would design that without seeing the obvious flaws.

DOS2 has the worst armor system of any game. I could`t bear it and the Diablo 3 style itemization. BG3 is a incline compared to DOS2 and a huge decline compared to BG2.

Agreed (partly, not the huge decline thing), and obviously bg > bg2WaterMage wrote: ↑ June 3rd, 2024, 14:04DOS2 has the worst armor system of any game. I could`t bear it and the Diablo 3 style itemization. BG3 is a incline compared to DOS2 and a huge decline compared to BG2.

True. The armor system in Original Sin 2 basically messed up in Act 3 since most enemies in that game by that point have the evade skill or something equivalent. Making each fight a huuuuuuge slog. Whereas the first 2/3 are well replayable.
Up the last third of the game, the negative effects of the broken armor system are not very noticeable. That is probably how it got thru testing.
Nobody tests much the last act as usual.

The armor system already sucked Act1. That strict magical/physical armor split is just a special kind of retarded designNotAI wrote: ↑ June 3rd, 2024, 16:29True. You should have added "Never played it and have no plans to" to the polling options.

checked votes, didn't realise that would lock me out of voting (makes sense in hindsight)
ye i'd give it a 0 since i've no intention of playing it
was on the fence about possibly playing it around the time i joined the site (after watching some streamers do a playthrough, being frustrated about the pozz and doing a deep dive about the modding drama, which led me here)
but even with the good work the modders are doing here, it seems like too much of a pain in the ass what with how utterly drenched in faggotry it is
if i do end up playing it, i'd probably just go without any companions (which i did for DOS2 although i got bored and stopped during act 2 lol) because my god what a joke
ye you can make a party of custom companions (or just play with other people) but i've never been a fan of managing a full party as opposed to 1 character. made an attempt at doing a run of DOS2 with only the male Origin characters (which you can't even do in BG3 lol, 1 nigger, 1 faggot, 1 normal-ish white guy but with a retarded backstory, rest are women or people you encounter later in the game), but once again just wasn't really into it.
worth noting i never really gave a shit about the forgotten realms IP, or the DND ruleset in general, so it's a hard sell in the first place. just a shame because as others have said it seems like there's a decent game in there under the mountain of filth, there's something about it that tempts me to give it a try but i know i'll regret it the moment i do

It's somewhere between shit and better than any Owlcat game ever made.
