No Alphabets 2.2 — Baldur's Gate 3

Post by orinEsque »

ImageImage
TLDR: This mod turn NPCs that does not fit medieval sensibilities (i.e. LGBTQ) into regular citizens of Faerûn.
Video Showcase: (Nocturne), (Sebastian), (Minor NPCs_1), (Minor NPCs_2)

"No Alphabets" mod pack ensures that the gender and sexuality of world NPCs match medieval status quo. It leverages the power of Voice AI to alter Aylin, 2 quest-related and 13 minor NPCs. Where relevant, everything related to an NPC's identity have been altered i.e. appearance, voice, SFX, subtitles and how other NPCs refer to the target NPC.
Nearly 700 lines have been changed for the Ser Aylin Project alone!

Big thank you to @Crusaderknight20 for his help with these lines and also to @dantrag28 for helping with the logistics and testing.

Current Exceptions
If an identity adds to the game/ too embedded in lore / would not be out of place in medieval times it has not been altered.

I need YOUR help!
If you are the kind of person that reads flavour text, I would like you to flag offensive flavour text in this thread. All I need is an identifiable excerpt from the offending item. For example, to find everything related to Yrre, I just used "Yrre" to pull out the relevant xml fields using R. The process is mostly automated, I just need you to identify to me what needs changing.
If I ever play the game for real, I'll be using BBAesthetics and this, so I'll take notes.

Perfect, I just finished BG3 so I remember a bunch

-there's a githyanki woman in the mountain pass creche infirmiry with vitiligo
-Fist Silena at the South Span Checkpoint to Wyrm's Crossing has vitiligo
-man sleeping in the sewer next to potions of sleep: a note nearby mentions his husband
-Hunkers Boolean and Gaheid Slickjaw are NPCs who devoted their allotted one sentence to being faggots
-There's a Gondian halfling woman in the first room of the Steel Watcher warehouse. If you trigger the cutscene with the guard, the guard mentions holding her wife hostage.
-I think one of the Ironhand gnome guys you rescue from the cave in will call another gnome his husband

Thanks, If you can remember a portion of the letter that would help. Also I'm leaving Raphael as he is, its just too funny. "It" is the most sane pronoun for an illithid I've ever seen

Thanks! I'll fix that. Also I will leave Vitilgo changes for (Fist Yilena and Pyrindath) to people working on Aesthetics in general, I personally never even noticed. And the NoAlphabet mods are a bit more... specialised ;) .

I imagine it will be quite the hassle to chop chop interactions between Isobel and Aylin, but they are not as obnoxious - which means they are easy to spot and cutting them out won't change much of the context

- optional. An outsider would think that a priestess of Selune had died, and Ayling - being the child of Selune - mourns. Unless any mentions of Isobel as Aylin is gay. Just posting it there
It's just my opinion, not the absolute truth

I think if you tried to do this with Pathfinder you would find your work cut out for you.

I had to find where that phrase came from since it sounded odd...

As soon as it's revealed they're a couple, they both cease being characters. They literally don't say anything that isn't some variation of "OMG I love my girlfriend uguu~~~". You could cut it all.

Future changes (not anytime soon):
1. Dame Aylin will be Ser Aylin
2. Ai to change Aylin's voice to male.
3. Ima change his head no problem. Loving blender.
3. Find way to remove his (its a he now in my head) line about telling me to fuck off from my own camp.
If anyone remembers all the books/letters relating to the two falling in love. That would be great. I would much prefer a hot male Aesimar than this obnoxiousness.

I wished Aylin was a male Aasimar
She is written like she would be a dude from the start. It would be more wholesome too

But modern writing for "strong women" is just writing a dude and place female head and tits on him

Even Sisters of Battle from WH40k have more femininity than Aylin, and they are twice as zealous about fighting for their faith

At first I liked the theme of a Priest banging the child of the god they follow, but Aylin is just...insufferable

If they were lesbians like Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune, it would be much more bearable, but Isobel is far from feminine like Neptune is, and Aylin has neither the charm nor stoicism of Uranus.

I'm highly suggesting giving Ser Ayling a beard
I just jest xD
Clean shave would be fine too
If I spot something, I'll let you know. I have multiple playthroughs - some of them before meeting the two

You can throw making Isobel white in there as a package, unless whitewashing Isobel is part of better aesthetics

I couldn't have put it better myself. Silly me for thinking I'd like to be "strong woman" in that my talents as a person will be amped up, not me suddenly becoming the definition of alpha male. Fucking reddit is the most sexist piece of shit, pretending to be all "woman are the better sex" while telling women to be men!

I prefer my men to have a little beard. But I will have to judge based on when I remodel the face.

Er isn't isobel white already? Her skin looks... ashen... fits the whole resurrected from death with an unholy ritual type of vibe. (but yes that would be for the other mod, we're dealing with alphabets here.)

Hmm.. You're right. I forgot she was resurrected for a minute

It might me just me with mod installed that makes my character's skin porcelain white, cause the brightest of white skins is still way too dark for my taste
I lack representation in modern games in this manner; I'm deathly pale

So compared to my character, Isobel is quite dark

I can certainly write a tutorial on how to do the edits. Unfortunately my french is limited to the word baguette. *honhonhon*. Unless you know R though, the best I can do is identify the lines that need changing and which file, and you'd have to do this manually. And Every time there's a patch.

REJOICE PEASANTS! For I bring you AI altered voices!
I've started with two easier NPCs. NightSong will be last to be tackled because she needs a LOT of changes. I'm new to this voice changing AI, so I will use these throwaway NPCs as a stepping stone. The mod now has an added component! "NoAlphabetsVoice". Make sure to download that otherwise there will be appearance and voice mismatch.

Version 1.1
AI Voice changes are here!

Lingo
Fix mentions of "his husband/her wife"
LOW_SewersBoosters_Overdose_Letter now mentions a wife
Amandus (not Amanda) writes to his wife Flora in Blighted Village.

Aesthetics

What are your opinions of Alfira and Lakrissa? It isn't as shoehorned and dislikeable as Aylin... I'm a bit divided.

Nocturne will now be a man who is good with doing girls' hair and tried turning himself into a woman with a potion but hated it. He now changed his name to become a new man that embraces his feminine talents. His journal entry will reflect this.

Note: I'm leaving the Fist Jara as is, because she's in a backroom of a brothel.

HAH! Nocturne is now a man in name, appearance portrait and voice! You and npcs should also now refer to him as a "he". Report if I missed a line.

Version 1.2
Lingo, Aesthetics and voice combo
Nocturne is now a complex man. In face, voice and flavour text. Biggest change I've made so far!
  1. People now refer to Nocturne as a "he". If I missed a line flag it!
  2. He is now a male tiefling.
  3. His diary has now changed. Read it to find out his new story!
    ► Show Spoiler
  4. Check out his new voice and appearance in the video file below.

That's actually pretty good for AI voice, what tools did you use to make it?

Posted it here: viewtopic.php?t=1090-npc-modders-resour ... r-s-gate-3
With additional input not in the video

The tool can pull out any NPCs lines as long as you know their voice code. Not hard to find. Companions, Narrator, Isobel and Nightsong are already there for you to pick. Not surprised about the latter, Asians are based.

I took them as sisters or besties, but I never thought "omg they are lesbians"
Maybe my lesbian radar is just broken

At this point I doubt there are any gay couples in Baldur's Gate TBH
I'm not talking about diary entries, but I'm talking more-or-less story relevant NPCs that do have some voice lines
(and no, neither Astarion, Gale, Wyll, nor Halsin count. Companions are Playersexual, as I discussed in the other topic)

Should I be wrong, please do correct me

Your lesbian radar is 100% broken. We don't talk to our beasties about getting our own house with a fence. And in act 3 Lakrissa will tell you she's with alfira if you ask her for a kiss. And then the googly eyes she makes at her (in that most cliche way) when Alfira says bg city is beautiful, and Lakrissa a stares at Alfira and agrees.

Any how i think I'll leave them in. They aren't openly gay and not megaphoning to the world about it, and keeping it mostly unsaid is how they would have existed in a medieval era.

I had no plans to change the companions. I like them all.

That explains a lot
I never chose options to kiss female NPCs, so I missed that completely
And I might have skipped some dialogues

I didn't reach much into their other interactions, but I admit I didn't interact them a lot
Alfira's quest, and maybe some interactions with Alfira as a bard, since there are nice dialogues with her if you're a fellow Bard

It's reassuring we have similar views on that.
I would give Isobel and Aylin a pass
They were reunited so I get it - they didn't care for the whole team is watching their proclamations of love
I would've done the same with my bf

But Aylin is an insufferable beacon of modern female character writing
And is willing to share horny details later in the camp in a casual conversation, which is obnoxious TMI

Same
I might give Shadowheart, Karlach and Lazz a chance one day, just for the sake of achievments
Yeah I frequent women hating megathread, but that doesn't mean I'm not rational, and knowing Larian - I'm sure they are well written

Hah average woman. Don't compare me to those simians. My intelligence and talent far surpasses the vast majority of men AND woman (edwin odesseiron voice). You don't have to make excuses for participating in woman haters thread to me.

As far as I'm concerned adults can do to each other what they want in their bedroom. I expect 1400s Africa to have mainly black people. If these sentiments make me a ist/ phobe to the woke crowd. So be it.
