For some reason, the default character movement/camera controls are janky. There are two settings you will want to change to restore traditional MMO control. You will want to rebind "toggle mouse mode". It is by default alt (the alt binding cannot be eliminated, so it will be annoying if you alt+tab out and accidentally flip it, but once you rebind it to say, a side button on your mouse, then it will be pretty easy to get back your normal control. Next, you will want to toggle off chase camera. That way when you right click to drag the mouse, your character does not turn along with your camera, so you will be able to rotate your camera around and see the front of your character.

Combat controls: once again there is jankiness where by default, you have to hold down your left mouse button over a moving mob (very difficult to do with your camera zoomed out like in a traditional MMO model). To fix this, you want to have mouse mode keybound and toggled back to regular MMO camera control (ie no target reticle in the middle of your screen). And then what you want to do is to open up your key binds and clear these five keybinds, and set "set intended target" to the left mouse button. And bind "select target and summon radial menu" to your right mouse button:

Scroll down to the bottom of the list and bind autoaim keybind to Y and your autoattack keybind to 5, or whichever number you want.

Then what you do is you walk up to a critter, you left click them to set them as target, and then press 5 and your character will start autoattacking that critter without you having to press or hold any more buttons. If it doesn't work, then press Y to turn autoaim back on, and then press 5 again.
Beware that this will mean that you will no longer be able to just left click on NPCs or objects to talk/interact with them. You will instead have to right click on them to bring up a radial menu, and then left click the option you want. Right clicking a NPC looks like this:
