I’m surprised @Vergil hasn’t latched onto Yu-Gi-Oh! yet, considering the protagonist looks like a 90s edge emo. It also has a surprisingly large amount of yaoi doujin attached to the IP, despite having zero homoeroticism in it for whatever reason.

I played it a lot as a kid. unfortunately the "meta" nowadays seems to be about drawing your entire deck and winning on turn one before your opponent can do anything. Yawn

I greatly enjoy the idea of a TV show centered around a real game that I can also play. Every example fucks it up though by not adhering to the game rules in the show due to the lazy and bad writers not understanding why I cared in the first place.

Yugioh was at its best during the 5Ds era. Best anime with a well-done story and believable characters along with great single-player video games campaigns full of progression, puzzles, and catchy duel music. The balance for the card game was pretty fair back then too. You had several to take several turns to summon your boss monsters which made it satisfying to pull off along with giving your opponent a chance to counter play your strategy.

Everything that came after 5Ds is pure garbage though

The anime tries to hard to attract a younger audience and as a result, the characters look ridiculous and story ends up being bland. Konami stopped releasing single-player games and only supports their Pay-2-Win mobile garbage. And as Hayling said, most duels only last 2-3 turns especially if either player gets a bad hand. Heck, even a good hand can lose you the game if it has no way to prevent your opponent from setting up their board.
