Once Human - open-world survival MMO

Post by Yankee Zulu »

Looks interesting. It launched today. I havent tried it yet but I will.

Once Human is a multiplayer open-world survival game set in a strange, post-apocalyptic future. Unite with friends to fight monstrous enemies, uncover secret plots, compete for resources, and build your own territory. Once, you were merely human. Now, you have the power to remake the world.

Don't really see anything out of the norm for online games but I skimmed it. Passed it to ChatGPT and it doesn't think there's anything out of the norm either.

Starry Studio belongs to Singularity Studio Group, one of the emerging teams of NetEase IEG, with studios in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hangzhou.
NetEase, Inc. (simplified Chinese: 网易; traditional Chinese: 網易; pinyin: Wǎngyì) is a Chinese Internet technology company
They just incorporate in singapore for legal reasons

If you say so.

Meanwhile Ive played for about an hour. Roamed for a bit not following the tutorial quest. Not bad. Feels like a Division but open world with survival crafting and base building. Character can use a special ability in combat kinda like a spell or some shit. There are different kinds for different purposes. Combat feels good. But I only used the starting weapon machete, makeshift crossbow and AK. Crossbow can oneshot mobs with a headshot but AK cant. Makes sense. There are PVE and PVP servers. I think no solo servers. You need to designate your own land plot to be able to build. So far so good, need to play more. Oh there are open world bosses, kill get loot.

Was crafting ever good outside of games which had it as their main feature?

I've never liked it myself and I get the feeling it was added to many games as a selling point or "just because". Age of Decadence is one such example.

Its a decent f2p game actually. Good even. Ubisoft was making a f2p Division title but it was cancelled. I guess they saw this and decided they werent going to do better.

The variety of enemies was an obvious focus. Im like lvl 15 and Ive seen all kinds of shit. Not just different zombjes but mobs with different abilities and attack patterns.

Yeah, it's fun so far. Enemies look interesting and unique. I had a fucking school bus with arms and legs walk around while I was looting.

I think this game has something incredible and I think its huge if true. If Im not mistaken the AI behaviour changes the further you are into the game. I mean the same enemies start to behave differently. The spot you from farther away, they behave more aggressively, etc.

Someone should confirm this. I started noticing this at around lvl 20. I dont remember ANY game featuring this.

You mean autoscaling? No, this is different because there are no player skills to scale up to.

BTW about that bus. No need to attack it. Go near it, itll stop and you can find a chest inside. It spawns adds though.

This is an MMO first and survival/crafting second. It has a story, side quests, exploration, satisfying combat, character development, loot, dungeons, boss fights with matchmaking, etc.

And this is horror. Reminds me of The Secret World.
